Rorky, the worlds foremost interiors specialist (OK, maybe one of), son of Kevin the Head Man at Moto T, and responsible for the dashboard is now turning his attention to the less than demanding bucket of 22 bits requiring mouse hair but at the same time has pointed out that the Michelotto seats are looking pretty grubby and will not clean up. They did apparently have mould growing on them let alone oil stains and so we are left with no option but to recover.

Interestingly the standard road car seats are covered with a very effective slightly coarse material, whereas the LM chairs have this nasty nylon like stuff that picks up everything as per the attached. The sensible and practical choice would be to go for the nice road car finish so we have gone for the nasty impractical choice but somehow it just looks right.

Simply wad up a ball of masking tape and scrub the area effected with tape remnants and residue. This will leave the area beneath perfectly clean.

The tape ball acts very much like an eraser and works best with the blonde masking tape MT is using (not so much with blue), and when the surface is fairly smooth.

My thinking that the front end is a modded road car version is because other parts of the car (center section) are modded, and, if he went to the trouble of securing a real LM front end, why not a real rear end too? The rear is clearly a road car rear, and all the mechanicals are road car, so what we have here is an "F40 with some LM features". There is a cottage industry in Japan for repro parts, and I'd wager that this F40 has no genuine Michelotto items. Its a nice tribute to the spirit of the F40 LM. The tendency to stretch any F40 with some LM features into a full-blown F40LM description is rather rampant.

Another reason to use the road car material is that it is very durable! Stains can be steam-cleaned out most of the time, and it holds up very well as has been shown over the past 25 years.

So do you think we have made the wrong choice, sticking with the original fabric?

Good tip Conclux, but you need to get the masking tape off in the first place and that's a right nasty job, come on Tim, how do you do it ????? Keep revving, Penny.

No, not at all, as you are being faithful to originality wherever possible, but the road car fabric would certainly not be a sin, given its practicality and this car's intended use.

Just ask any body shop, and they'll explain the same technique I described.

They turned out very nice, this car better be featured in a magazine or two, three, four so on. This car I think will end up a lot more special than a Michelotto car in its own way.

Lloyd's of London may be the only one's who would consider covering such a car.
