No need, since Paul has the cojones to register here (Rossa subscribed, no less) and post under his own name.
Wow Paul. What a great result! In 18 months too. You must have some connections at your resto shop. A few questions: The black roof, do you have any information if that was an original feature? The old trans tunnel was carpeted. You went with leather? It looks like the car had a Lusso ashtray with a Cavallino emblem instead of flags. You decided not to install? Thanks, Geno
Unless its my own personal car ( 4177GT) I make a point of not discussing cars I have for sale on here. However 1421GT is an exception as it shows what can be achieved if money is no object and the owner will insist on the the very best artisans to complete the work....I am not going to mention names...The car was not restored for profit but for the joy of bringing back to life a very tired and seemingly unloved PF. This was made possible as basically the car was complete and also rot free. I cant take credit for this as I am selling the car on behalf of a fellow Ferrari Chatter whose enthusiasm knows no bounds. I purely advised where needed. The car was completed in April 1959 and painted in Nero with Red ( VM3171) hide and Red carpets......Sold new in the US. Although not original, I think it was an inspired choice to two tone the car in restoration.....It works well even if my present photos are poor. To the best of our knowledge the car originally had a leather transmission tunnel and the carpet was definitely a later addition to the car. Yes, the ashtray that came with the car is incorrect but an original one will come with the car.......presently being restored along with the plate surround......but am of two minds whether to fit it or leave for the new owner to decide. I personally prefer without.
Compared to the restoration costs its pennies.....I could be wrong but in my opinion you will never find such a comprehensively restored PF anywhere in the world. Theres an old saying......Buy cheap, buy twice.......Like all things, it will find its level.
Having sold a couple myself in recent weeks, and knowing what has gone into the transformation of 1421, I'd agree that it's priced spot on. Good luck Paul.
Valid point but I have made this mistake before and paid the consequences.......Many years ago I was introduced to a paintshop who I considered to be the finest I had ever known......I was so impressed I sang their praises from the rooftop and passed on their details to all........In June of last year I took my 275 GTB there to be stripped and re painted...Its still there some 7 months later as now others appreciate how good the work is they are inundated with cars. Lesson learned.......National treasures need closely guarding....sorry.
Paul I know how you love my holiday snaps so I will come and take some decent photos for you this weekend if you like ;-) The car looks fantastic and bravo to you for all the effort that i know will have gone into organising and managing the restoration. I remember when you showed me the "in pieces" photos 18 months back I questioned your mental faculties. You win. Yes its a lot of money - but it also looks like a lot of car to me. Best Darren.
It's interesting to think these could be had for 120k in the early 2000's. That's really not long ago.
Beautiful looking car. Seems to be one of the very best I have seen. If I did not have one, maybe............ Ken Goldman
Ahhh... those were the days weren't they John? But even then I was told your green one was too much !!
