Thanks for catching that - I just took a glance and it being a US car didn't even think of that possibility. Truthfully there should have been an odometer conversion done when Wallace Labs handled the importation process for the US owner and it should be reading in miles. Also the catalog description didn't help when I was skimming and read this line:

"By the consignor’s estimate, the GTO has accrued only approximately 300 miles during his tenure of careful custody."

Anyway, I agree that most probably were expecting different results with that trio. It seemed RM was having a rough go at things this evening - a couple of stars but a lot of passed lots and bids near the bottom of the range they had estimated. Max doesn't usually have to work so hard. I didn't get to watch the Thursday night event - was it any better?

This car has about 47,000 Kms on its odometer when imported into the U.S. over ten years ago. The speedometer dial was re-faced into MPH during its compliance work at Wallace Labs. Additionally, the odometer was modified to click in miles. As such, the existing odometer reading (in Kms), was multiplied by 0.62 to calculate its equivalent in miles and thusly reset to reflect said miles equivalent.

In summary, the CURRENT odometer reading is showing miles, NOT kilometers.

A decrepit GTS brings more than a GTB?

Is that the same car Wayne Carini at F40 Motorsports sold not too long ago? There was a 275 GTB4 in that color featured in an episode of CCC.

Haven't you heard - unrestored survivor is now more desirable than any 100 pt restoration 'Best of Show' winner. ;)

    In theory, sure.

    But this is real money.

    ;)

Seriously, destroying patina to turn a car into something it never was is a mistake in my book but a car that needs this much work just to run is beyond "preservation".

Is this the "barn find car", which a Dr had for 2 yrs, drove 22K miles, had a fuel return line fire,, the insurance company "totaled it-it was then issued a SALVAGE TITLE(???), it was sold through the salvage auction system of the time, a new owner bought some parts, and never did anything with it? This was the blurb describing it on the internet a month or two ago????
    is this the same car????

If so, someone paid for a salvage title car-which can NEVER be "cleaned up"-for 1.5Million-ish???
    seriously?
    really????

and a GTB tube car sold for 1.65 plus BP, and a virtual twin(vin extremely late in the run) was bid to exactly same, and was a NS....
And this GTS sold for nearly as much????

This almost sounds like NON-Ferrari peoiple throwing money at stuff they don't really understand???

The GTS sold for over 2 million with premium, the NS GTB didn't have matching motor, I would much rather have the GTS and its worth more than a 2 cam GTB

Not required. My GTO was imported into CA when new, never left CA, and the odometer was always in kilometers. It was not a well presented car.

Having owned both, I liked the 275 GTB better. But that has nothing to do with the value of the cars. At the moment, it appears a 330 GTS is worth more than a 3 carb long nose steel body car and less than a 6 carb long nose steel body car and any alloy body GTBs. With such a thinly traded commodity this could change tomorrow. Production volume is about the same. Approximately 100 330 GTS cars and a smidge more (107-ish) torque, tube long nose cars (6 and 3 carb, alloy and steel).

Interesting - thought it was part of the regs. When McLaren F1s come into this country under 'Show or Display' the gauges are always changed and I have been told this is not a trivial effort so if it could be skipped some surely would.

I think the 275 GTB production numbers are more like
    240 Short nose
    220 Long nose 2 cam
    330 GTB 4

Yes, the hammer price was $1.65M so $1.815M in total with the Premium. A real beauty and a great price.

I just went back and looked at Goodings 2004 Pebble Beach auction. A 275 GTS sold for $264,000.00. That was a very nice car that ran. Its hard to imagine that in 10 years the same car has increased 10 times in value and decreased 10 times in quality!!

The 'km' description in yellow (printed just below the odometer reading), doesn't actually describe/refer to the odometer reading. Instead, it relates to the smaller km/h yellow numbers (displayed in a circular arrangement) underneath the much larger orange mph numbers, etc.
