I am excited to see what happens. Its only a matter of time before these cars get the respect they deserve and today could be the day that a production model 308 cracks $100k (incl. premium) at auction. That's a big deal IMO.

You have to remember were talking about the rare fibreglass model here, not just any old 308.
Top 'Vetroresinas' were changing hands in Europe around the $120,000 last year.

I don't doubt it, which is why I specified "at auction." Then, those prices are public knowledge. I am not aware of one that has sold at auction for over $100K, but I could be wrong. And I don't think many people know that they've been trading privately for over $100K.

I'm surprised. I thought the number would be strong, but not that strong. These last few sales of US spec glass cars shows that buyers don't care as much about the US vs. Euro as I thought they would. I wonder what if any premium an identical euro spec glass car would bring in the same situation?

To me the main elements of the euro glass cars that appeal are rarity, lower weight, dry sump engine, and better looking bumpers. The US spec cars only have 1 of the 4.

I suppose that shows that the novelty of "glass" trumps the rest.

So I guess that is kind of a put down for those with a US car? Question: Has a QV sold for that much in the last few years? :)

It just means that if you own a pretty low mileage yellow US glass 308, your can probably get 114K Dollars for it! ;-)

Seriously, I'm not sure this sale can be easily interpreted. What was the weight of the low mileage? Was the buyer interested in a US spec car because a Euro one wouldn't be accepted in his State (I understand it happens, doesn't it?)? Was originality, with its drawback in the form of cracks in the paint, a factor in this price?

In a word, those cars are too rare for a clear market price to be set. It's all a matter of opportunity. The only thing I am sure of is that I wouldn't sell my vetroresina for that price, so I'm cool, it means I can still keep it for a few years!

So I was off a bit, not bad.

I won't consider selling mine now for anything less than 150.

About time these carb 308s start climbing abit.

Red, Your car is beautiful. I bet if you wait for the magic 40 year mark (2016) you'll be looking at 150k.

    I will want 200 by then ;)

Stupid me, I should have bought all those eBay carb 308s at 20k when I had the chance.

That was good money for this car, and an 88 328 GTB sold for $82,500 at the same auction. Are we seeing some momentum here?...

Haha. I think we both know the answer to that.

No put down intended. I was just thinking back to when I was a buyer and the factors that influenced me. Back then (which wasn't all that long ago), there was a US glass car on the market that I considered. I ended up choosing the QV instead at basically the same price point. No regrets, just interesting to see how things change. At that time I would have purchased a euro glass car had any been available, but none were. When I did the reasoning back then I decided that I valued the other factors more the the FRP. From strictly a financial standpoint that ended up being a less than optimal decision, but in terms of driving and owning I am still a happy camper.

Overall, I am glad to see the 308 getting a little more respect, even if the charge is lead by the glass cars instead of the much better QV. :D

Most all of us have great F-cars from old 250's to 360's. My thinking is that it is good for all of us when prices start going up, up and up. We all gain, just some faster than others. :)

I belive my prediction was very close- I think the early 308's will lead the way -followed by 328's and then QV's and I's... GTB's will be more valuable than GTS...

Low mileage will trump all - condition being equal. however - provenance of past owner May have some input - like Rod Stewarts 308 from 1982 or something like that... I think in 10 years the average 308 will be low end $50K high end $125 - 328 Low $65K - hi $150 or there abouts.

Dont think it will get Dino crazy but will slowly appreciate. As Ferrari makes so many more cars - and they are so hugely out of reach to most - a $100k vintage Ferrari will start to sound great.

I think the GTS will trump the GTB over time. The performance difference is already minimal these days.

GTBs are more rare, but more people want to take the top off. So will the 3x8s follow the old adadge, when the top goes down, the price goes up?

Bargain!!! I guessed that this one would attract several collectors that would push it up to $140K-$150K. Shows what I know.

There was a steel yellow/tan carb GTB that would show up to Chicago events. Stunning combo. I think that car met an unfortunate demise, but I could be wrong...
