If that's the case, wouldn't 365 GTB/4 Daytona Spyder be the correct description for the US market?
Correct for the label on some cars, but a to describe a Spyder it would be a 365 GTS/4 . S is for Spyder B is for Berlinetta
Tom Hartley have now sold 365 GTB/4 Spyder #16483. It's interesting that the chassis plates and stampings are 365 GTB/4 and the Classiche Red Book refers to the car as 365 GTS/4. The Marcel Massini Report uses both. Also worthy of note is that according to the 2008 Massini Report, 16483 now with black interior, originally had a Rosso interior that it still had at the time of writing. http://www.fantasyjunction.com/cars/1169-Ferrari-365%20GTB/4%20Daytona%20Spyder-4.4%20Litre%2012-Cylinder Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
OK, then I do stand corrected, in that apparently, American Spyders were/could have been labeled 365 GTB/4. Arggghh. steve meltzer "Never enough time to do it right, always enough time to do it over!"
Steve thanks for the images from 16483! Yes that is right about the previously red interior but I didn't want to confuse things by mentioning that earlier. CH

USA Daytona Spyders, except for the first one, 14383, were called 365 GTB/4. The first USA one has both 365 GTB/4 and 365 GTS/4 on various parts of the cars. European cars were called 365 GTS/4. Just easier to import to the USA. Steve
If you're still looking and serious about a Daytona Spyder, there's a nice one up for auction this weekend at the Don Davis collection in Ft. Worth. RM auctions, but I don't have the lot # at the moment. Certainly on their website. No reserve. I'm planning to go, tho' none of the cars I aspire to own are in my price range....isn't that always the case? s
Michael Sheehan has 1971 Daytona Spyder #14473 for sale. The 14th of 122. Just completing a Platinum Level Restoration with Classiche Certification in process. Only one owner until 2011 and priced at $1,595,000. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here's the link to the Spyder RM (#16857) is auctioning this weekend. Restored by Wayne Obry (Motion Products), so you know it was done right. Books, tools, etc. Will probably go in the range of Sheehan's, I would think. Sure wish I had the resources to bid on this beauty. s 1973 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Spider by Scaglietti | The Don Davis Collection 2013 | RM AUCTIONS
The leather on the steering wheel on the RM looks a little funky for a 1.5M car, that said these are both beautiful cars....
When I'm at the auction, I'll pay close attention to the steering wheel, and I'll complain bitterly to the auctioneer, Max Girardo, if it's not right. steve "Never enough time to do it right, always enough time to do it over!"
