Why ? The ratings are lousy, the fan attendance is poor and no one cares about "spec" racing. Why would any company put money in to a dying dog? You can sell anything if no one is watching. Before anyone will sponsor it they need to fix it.
Moore needs to remove his head from his butt. The fans made it clear what they want and this isn't it!
Completely agree. But keep in mind that Indy Car will want a sponsor that implies viability... they might contract with AutoZone for $1 to get the appearance of health. If the title sponsor turns out to be JoAnn Fabrics or JC Penney on the other hand...
I think Verizon is the more likely option, for two reasons. one, they apparently see value in Indycar (huge $$$ in the Penske deal, along with a big activation and retail tie in), and also they could start a nice little battle with their competition at Sprint for best racing title sponsorship Firestone was going to back out of Indycar a few years ago, and I think they still somewhat want to. I don't see them "doubling down" on Indycar.
he did it with Izod.... btw I think the Verizon deal is managed by JMI. I'm not sure how much involvement Penske has in managing/directing that deal.
No disrespect, but I don't think Verizon would want involvement from Indy Car considering the value of it presently. They would get far more bang for the buck just staying at Penske Racing. (imho)
the flipside is, I bet title sponsorship could be had for less than 5% of what NASCAR gets from Sprint. it doesn't have the impact, but at the right price it could have value.
Maybe. But considering that Penske Racing receives the most on air camera time, I would think that has more value than just a title and a snipet when the go to 2 screen commercial views. Your guess is as good as mine but with all the changes, I think they are just about done. If the ratings don't improve next year, I would say for most sponsors it will be "abandon ship".
depends on how they activate it. Sprint does a brilliant job with NASCAR. Verizon can just steal their playbook (which they already kinda do, with the Verizon-only smartphone Indycar app, etc) there are very few true sponsors in Indycar as it is...maybe only half a dozen. fat lady is warming up
Ahhhh yes....that reckless tobacco money!!! When a cigarette sponsorship was more then just a smoke!! Great racing funded by that killer weed!!! And we wonder why the racing sucks these days.
Will this make you feel better? I certainly am getting a rush from it!! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Vicious accident between Dario and Sato in Houston on the last lap. Hope all involved are safe and sound including those in the stands. Dario seen moving in the car.
There was a lot of debris that looked like it went right into the stands. Fencing, wheels, and car parts. Vicious indeed.
Just saw the highlights. Terrible. As stated... lots of debris into the stands. Hope all injuries are minor.
