It was just completed by my good friend Rick Bunkfeldt in Wisconsin. I forget whether the chassis is 250 or 330 ( I think 250), and is powered by a six carb, hopped up, 500 Superfast engine. Rick had the "California style" body built in Italy. It is, without a doubt, the coolest hot rod I have ever seen!

Would to know what Superfast the motor came from as well as what 250 the chassis.
Hopefully he'll be back tomorrow. and I can ask him myself.
    Cool pipes.

Is that Gilbertson in the blue shirt? Great looking car, for sure. But my question is, given that some rebodies were destroyed by court order in Italy, is the owner of a car such as this at risk of lawsuit/confiscation? How about the builders in Italy? Does anyone have a definitive answer? Is Ferrari or FNA going after such cars?

How does a Superfast give up its heart for a custom car? Surely a Superfast is valuable enough today (or at any other time!) to be rebuilt - not parted out???? Color me perplexed....

Chassis number used for the Spider Americano is 3913 GT. From a GTE.
There are TWO 500 Superfast engines 6049 SA. One is in the 500 SF 6049, the other one in the Spider Americano seen at Elkhart.

What is ten writing and signature in the trunk lid inside?

Where did the gauges come from?

Was a gte chassis actually used?

Read the thread "500 Superfast s/n 6049 SF"

It sounds to me like something dodgy occurred a few years back and no one who knows wants to discuss it...

. Blue shirt is John Ling.
. What is the problem? Unlike so many fake Ferrari's it doesn't pretend to be anything other than a very nice custom body with all Ferrari components - 500 Superfast Spyder Americano.

Don't know all facts, but Ferrari Classic is in business of reproducing (faking) engine numbers and other such vintage Ferrari SN's. I strongly suspect that this engine is the one and only real sn6049. The one at the Quail was a fake/counterfeit, but perhps blessed by Ferrari.

Correct. He has had that motor for ages in anticipation of this project. Lots of parts accrued over decades - door handles, gauges, lights, etc. This car has been a long time in the making!

The quality is great but it just doesnt look good. Too long, borranis too small, and the side pipes dont really fit a California.

It's not intended to be a California though, it's a pure hot rod in the "Americano" tradition: The lightest car, modified to mate it to the hottest original engine of its time, then dialed up beyond "factory" intentions. It's like an Italian Cobra.

Those Borranis are actually larger, not smaller, to fit the significantly wider, Superfast-powered rubber. The cockpit is custom to accomodate a larger driver. Yet the wheelbase and length are, IIRC, identical to a LWB Cal. I'm a fan!
