The Heat with Sandra. Very funny and entertaining.
Am I the only one who thinks Pacific Rim has got to be one of the dumbest ideas/worst movies in a long time?
Looks better than half the rehashed garbage that is passing for cinematic excellence. Monsters fighting robots, I will watch it.
To each his own I suppose. Wired magazine did some calcs on the robots and the impossibilities are staggering: energy consumption and weight are beyond anything plausible and that's just the basics Why go through all that trouble when a tactical nuke would do?
Power Rangers meets Transformers meets Godzilla. What could go wrong there? Yes -- looks horrible with one of the dullest titles ever for a movie of it's type. Pacific Rim Job is more like it.
Lol Yeah, I just don't get the whole concept: If we were attacked by Godzilla/Transformers we would use our best weapons including nukes and that would take care of things. But building monster robots, which goes against any logic and physics? That's just Transformer porn Besides: I'm always suspicious of any movie that gets the crap advertised out of it. It's like the Studios realize they got a stinker on their hands.
Well, the Yeezus feels otherwise and you KNOW pop media whores will follow his lead... Kanye West Praises 'Pacific Rim': 'One of My Favorite Movies of All Time'
From the trailers, it looks like the monsters are close to or even in the cities. If they nuked them there, they would kill humans as well. Hundreds of thousands. I am looking forward to this movie. I love Human vs Alien/Monster movies. I loved Battleship, thought it was super entertaining. Same for ID4 or Colverfield. Im not sure you should worry about logic or phyisics when it comes to this sort of movie. If we were talking about a spy or historical movie, yes. But a Si fi monster movie is best enjoyed at without thinking too much!
A hijacking Pretty grim and realistic depiction of a Danish commercial vessel being hijacked by Somali pirates and the ensuing hostage negotiation.
MORE THAN HONEY. A documentary on the importance of bees to our food cycle. Surprisingly engrossing. More than Honey - Markus Imhoof (Official Trailer) on Vimeo
Shawshank Redemption. First time I've ever seen it all the way through and it definitely lived up to the hype. Great movie.
***SPOILERS*** Highlight to read ***SPOILERS*** This is covered in the film as the first time a monster attacks there are no giant robots to fight it, and a nuke is used. ***END SPOILERS*** Please, do not quote this post. Thanks.
Back to the Future Made it a point to watch with my 8-year-old. She loved it despite having some trouble coming to grips with the whole time travel aspect. But then again the movie is about relationships at its heart. Remains an excellent movie after 28 years, only a few jokes are dated. Despicable Me 2 never saw the first one but this one was funny with a few jokes for adults. Good kid movie.
I just finished a double feature of Olympus Has Fallen and White House Down or as I like to call them "Air Farce Two" and "Oh, Just Die Hard Already" I will say that OHF tries, it really does. It just doesn't quite get there. If you have to watch one of the two, go with this one. It's not a great movie, but it isn't a terrible movie. It's a movie. It will eat up two hours of a rainy afternoon adequately. WHD on the other hand... I'm sure we've all seen at least the first three Die Hard movies. Well, about 10 minutes into this movie, you will find yourself reaching for the DVD case, convinced you missed the words "Die Hard" somewhere on it. It IS a "Die Hard" movie, just the worst one so far. Yeah, really, worse than Live Free And Die Hard. The jokes fall flat, because we've heard Bruce Willis tell them better. The action falls flat because we've seen Bruce Willis do it better. The villain falls flat because James Woods is no Alan Rickman/Jeremy Irons. Sorry James, love you on Family Guy. The Lib-Dem politics falls flat because pseudo-subliminal messages about redistribution of wealth, why America is the problem in the Middle East, and how Barack Obama and Abraham Lincoln are the same person have no place in a movie like this. Make a Micheal Moore comment-umentary if you want to get up on the soap box and leave the action adventure escapism movies alone, so everyone can enjoy them. In the end, WHD is Die Hard in the White House, if it was made by the Young Democrats Club at a California high school.
I watched both this past week, and DM2 is a fitting counterpart to the original film. They share the same tone and whimsy, despite being pretty different. For the second film the film makers took what people loved about the first film and found a way to give us more of them, without just rehashing the first film. Now, neither film breaks any kind of new ground. Both are cliche from start to finish, but there is a reason cliches become cliches. They work. Both films manage to let the cliches work, while making them seem fresh and new. Solid 7 outta 10's for both films and I'm genuinely pleased we'll be getting a movie dedicated to Gru's Minions next year. That should be a lot of fun.
I took my daughter to Despicable Me 2, I thought it was pretty good, not as good as the original. The only sequel that I consider as good as the first one was Shrek 2, but definitely recommend DM2 for those with kids.
Funny I saw it last night and thought it was much better than the original although the original had more "heart". The littlest girl is amazingly cute and well animated. It's a bit of "The Incredibles" but I liked it. Some of the animation techniques are first rate. I've given the credit for not falling into a cookie cutter design style like some of the other major studios. And, it's funny they actually sort of animated Kristen Wiig as herself. My guess is that she acted it and they animated her movements. Clever. Worth seeing.
