Enough lively discussion in the Indy 500 thread I thought it might be worth starting a thread to follow the balance of the season. Am I wrong? :D

I'm looking forward to the Belle Isle double-header.

Sounds like practice was quite a mess yesterday with several red flags and a duck delay...

Dario's car looks sharp in black IMHO, Franchitti quick in Detroit, field set for race one | News | Motorsport.com.

Boogity, boogity, boogity, let's go racing boys (and girls)! Oops, wrong thread. ;) :D

Dominant win for Mike Conway; will be interesting to see if the same tomorrow.

Nice battle for 3rd thru 6th.

Hopefully Air AJ can keep it on the ground tomorrow.

I just don't like those rear wheel surrounds. Makes the car look amateurish.

Was in Michigan visiting some of my wife's relatives and we decided to take in the race. I thought the organizers did a nice job. Conway was the class of the field.

Cool shots...I was on the road and listened to it on XM...sounded like Conway had the field covered...he starts on pole tomorrow too.

Happy for the owner Dale Coyne who got his second ever win and had two guys on the podium.

is it just me, or would it make sense for race #2 to be gridded based on the finishing order or fastest lap times from race #1?

two separate qualy sessions seems a bit redundant.

In person, the cars look great. The rear wheel surrounds are to prevent serious accidents, saftey being more important than aesthetics.

I heard attendance was real low - any idea from those who were there?

I know why they are there, and they seem to have worked well.

And I agree that the racing is as good as it has been in a long time.

I just wished there were another way to achieve the same safety objective.

I agree. the cars look awful, in pictures, on TV, in person, whether static or moving. it is a big issue that IndyCar needs to address NOW.

Agree. The smooth flowing lines that were a trademark of Indy cars has now been changed to something that looks like a hump backed turtle. This does need to be addressed. Permitting older chassis back in provided safety issues being met would certainly offer a much more diverse and aesthetically pleasing field of cars to the fans. Not to mention a reduction in cost to the owners.

Per one of the tweets I posted above that "may be the end of the era of the current car".

Positive signs, but no real information yet. Hopefully a more defined path comes quickly and shows a real change towards innovation and permits increased participation by startup teams and suppliers.

Sounds to me like they are emphasizing function (i.e. speed) over form (i.e. appearance) the next few years. Big aero change...stepped noses! :D

Here's the official notes, INDYCAR sets long-range competition strategy.

As always, one key is money...

Based on this statement...I don't see any new cars or manufacturers right away. It appears they keep the status quo, and improve upon what they already have. So it appears to be more of the same, just a regulated, faster version of the same product. In my view that isn't going to draw more viewers or fans into the stands. Time will tell but all we can do is watch & wait.

A.J 'Dinger crashed. Surely his hand had something to do with it. Feel bad for the guy. He has to feel like absolute dung having to go back to the "Captain" two days in a row....

I don't think so, there's a weird crest in the road right after the apex as drivers are unwinding the wheel and putting power down. I think that caught him out.

they should have thrown a red flag after that restart crash :(
