Still learning about the 360 I purchased Friday. The car has a built in radar detector which I cannot figure out even what it is. Up front on the left and right grill outside the car, there is a black box. (Each grill has a black box). Inside the car, where the gas lid switch is, there is a knob ontop of another knob which turns it on and off. Actually you can turn it on by turning the knob forward or turn it on by turning the knob backwards. The top knob appears to be the volumn button that does not work that well. There is no meter, it just lights up the instument panel red when it goes off (you can see it well at night, not worth a flip during the day). It sounds like an Enscort or passport, but again does not have anything showing at all.

Sorry for not posting a picture, as the camera on my phone does not work.

    Any ideas?

From what you are describing, it sounds like a K40. Look in the 355 section. There was a post yesterday describing almost the same thing.

Yes, a K40. There was one in my 360 when I got it, too. You can find and download a manual online.

Thanks you are correct, it is a K40. My guess is that it is 5-7 years old. Back to the Valentine.

I have passport/escort, (same outfit) 9500 model springs to mind, someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Hidden in the ash tray. Radar/Laser jammer sensors front/rear.
    No tickets so far...
    Legality unsure and don't care...

That's a K40. If there are two lights on the dash, the left one is front rader, the right is the rear. There is a city and highway mode when you turn on. Center position on knob turns it off. I have this system in my saloon

I believe this one is the 9500ci, for "concealed installation." This is the same model I am considering adding in the future.
In the meantime, I have a 9500xi which has the Escort Live connection to my iPhone, so that I am made continuously aware of any reported threats (red light cams, speed cams, and reported live cops). So far, it has actually been really good. I was hesitant because I was worried there wouldn't be enough users or reports. Not a problem, in my experience.

I'm not sure the 9500ci has the Escort Live tie-in. I believe it does not. I'm a little saddened by that, but the laser jamming capability is probably more important.

To the OP, yes, it sounds like a K40 Calibre. Good luck.

Yes, it is the K40 but the model before the Calbre (K40 2100?). It constantly makes two beeps when it is on (enough to drive you to drink). Can anybody tell me if this is a good radar detector? Thanks

If it is a K40, get rid of it. I had a remote unit in my Corvette and it wasn't worth having. Falsed all the time and very poor range!

Is the 9500ci the best system to get? Is it the most expensive?

I have had both the Valentine 1 and 9500ci. There was no comparison in my book. V1 is my favorite in every way!

It is strange that this thread got brought back up as I was just thinking about it driving to work this morning. The K40 is complete garbage as the only place to mount the radar detector (in the front) is under the headlamp in the grill which is waaaay to low for it to be effective. I use both the k40 (since I am already pregnant with it being installed in the car) and a Valentine hardwired to the sunvisor.

The biggest disapointment was calling the people at K40. My model is only one past model old - and all their comments was "it is junk- buy a new K40". Just made me think that when the next model comes out, they will be saying the same thing about the model they are selling now. I should have listened and spent the extra money and purchased a quality "built in" system.

I agree with the folks who think the V1 arrows are indispensible. I've tried the escorts (installed and visor) but always come back to the V1.
I don't like any detector hanging on the window, so i mounted it behind the seats on an L-shaped bracket covered in shrink wrap and shoved between the window and bolster but looking out both windows. It's hardwired to the fuse block behind the passenger seat and the remote was mounted on a piece of plastic that I heat molded and slipped between the 2 pieces of carpet. Works like a champ after a little bit of effort.
