I remember being REALLY POOR - kicked out at 18 and having to fend for myself for my
first years on my own, at $1.65 an hour minimum wage, working at Radio Shack, going
to the local Yugo dealer about 1982 thinking "Wow! $3500 for a NEW CAR!" (or whatever
the actual number was - close to that). LOL!!

What a PILE OF CRAP CAR that was!!!

But I do have strong memories of Yugo in America back then.

I owned a Yugo in red.

It wasn't really that bad a machine, given that it was really a 70s FIAT in disguise. Great gas mileage and fun to throw around the corners.

It got killed by a pickup that ran a red light.

    Here's something to think about.

If you drive this Yugo a few thousand miles, does it depreciate a lot? :)

A friend's father was an Oldsmobile dealer - his franchise picked up Yugo. He drove it from Connecticut to Pennsylvania (an seemingly amazing feat in that machine.) I remember it being a ton of fun, in terms of a car to be driven at 9/10s everywhere, out of necessity.

The spare tire adjacent to the hot engine seemed a questionable engineering decision....

I remember near the end of Yugos run in the U.S. some dealers were either selling these new for $500, or giving them away if you bought different car make from them.

They've had that one for sale for like 5 years... last I knew, they wanted $14,200 for it...

Would fit in well with all those micro-cars that just went to auction in Georgia... park the Yugo out front with a sign "Warning: Giant Car"...

My buddy had one Years ago. We both agreed at the time it was the most profoundly crappy car we had ever driven. Even at 3k we both agreed he got ripped off. When you pulled the door closed the whole thing would flex.

Years later I was on the highway and saw this souped up stretched Yugo that appeared to have a massive engine under the hood. The license plate simply said "I know". :)

I remember looking inside a Yugo that had been abandoned on the side of the road, and thinking what a pos. The controls for the wipers/turn signals and everything else had to be the cheapest looking pieces of plastic I have ever seen in an automobile.

    Oh, yes.

    Along with the VW Fox.

    Renault LeCar, a bit earlier.

Renault Alliance, just as bad but for more money.

Even more money would buy a Sterling, which had Acura Legend drivetrain and a rotting exterior and decomposing interior.

    Fun times!

I quess it was -91 or -92 after the Yugo went bust they sold the last cars 2in1, buy one, get one for free. They didnt have any support for parts after the factory went bankrupt so you got second one as parts car for free.

I just saw this ad and I must say that I am quite smitten by it. Yes the Yugo is total crap but just look how original and perfect it is. In a climate like Nevada or California you could have a ton of fun with this car and hav one heck of a conversation piece at car shows. Even when (not if) you loose your entire expenditure it will still be less than the depreciation on many other toys yet much more distinctive. A cheap way to have a load of fun.
