While the options list was short for the 308: Boxer bottom, Piping, contrasting stitching, roof spoiler & 16" wheels (in some markets). Does anyone have a period price list for these options?

I may have this, Michael, but that would be for the French or German markets, and therefore either in French Francs or Deutsche Marks.
Furthermore, I don't have the history of the United States economics right now in my memory, but over here in France, inflation was running at two digits from 1980 to 1984 (14% in 1983, if my memory serves me well) so prices did change from year to year, so it would help if you could give us a ballpark of the year / model that you are specifically interested in?

    Regards.

    Interesting question.

Somewhere, and I have NO idea where I read or saw it I remember reading/learning that metallic paint was about a $4000 option. I would bet that Tommy Cosgrove might come along and have some knowledge of this. There are a few others who I would suggest might know as well - Rifledriver being another prime candidate.

Not the same car, not the same market, but FWIW:

January 1989, a brand new 328 "dry", without any option, was:

430.000 french francs for a GTB
440.000 french francs for a GTS

Metallic paint option was 6.400 ff (more or less 1,5% of the price)

    To give a perspective:
    ABS was 16.000 ff;
extended leather, that is "parcel shelf" and roof liner in leather was 4.800 ff

I believe I have a copy of a window sticker from an 84 GTS QV. IIRC it was orro chiaro (metalic gold). I don't think metalic paint was $4K, but I'll try to remember to check when I get home.

It was also equipped with a leather dashboard which was an extra cost option.

This link actually shows 85GTSiQV @ $830 for the metallic paint option

    I have copy of 82GTBi sticker image...I think a reproduction. Here is a little 82GTBi vs 85GTSi:

Suggested port of entry retail price on 82GTBi: $51,930
    82 Prep and Delivery: $350
    82 Destination: $395
Suggested port of entry retail price on 85GTSi: $59,500
    85 Prep and Delivery: $350
    85 Destination: $520

Interesting post, that's great to see, but I think if you read the first invoice (window sticker) carefully near the MPG figures it is a 85 QV. Also the s/n is very close to my 85 QV.

Amazing that the list price from the 78 GTS to the 85 QV jumped from 28k to 60k. Was inflation running high in the states as well then? I know in South Africa in the early 80's inflation was running in the mid to high teens.

I agree, this is one for "Rifledriver"...I am particularly interested in the prices of piping and contrasting stitching as options.

No where near $4,000...for an 84 QV it was $830.00.

Contrasting piping was a no charge option.

Here are the options and prices as listed on an 84 308GTS QV.

    Price before options $59,500.00
    Prep: $350.00
    Destination: $495.00

    Metalic Paint: $830.00
Large Spoiler: $535.00 (this car had the deeper front Euro style spoiler)
    Leather Dashboard: $840.00
Contrasting (Brown) Piping: N/C (the car had a brown leather dashboard, tan interior & seats, and the seats had brown contrasting piping).

    Total MSRP: $62,550.00

I know this might be a long shot, but does any one have a window sticker copy or price numbers on a 85 GTS QV Euro spec ( swiss market) car.

I have NO idea where I got the $4k figure for the metallic paint and I always thought that was REALLY high - even by todays standards.

Glad to get good solid information on that though.

I have seen the reference to tinted glass on the dealer sticker before but I've never actually seen tinted glass on a 308 unless it's aftermarket. Are they talking about the glare strip at the top of the windshield?

Take a look at the new Forza mag. They have a listing in the back of todays market value for all Fcars. Pretty interesting and also an artical on the Budweiser 308
