Friend and I took his Barchetta out today and on getting it back to the garage, switch it off and at periodic intervals there is thing zing like noise, sounds almost like an F1 pump type noise just not as loud.

Is this normal and if so what exactly is this noise?

Another question, how hot are these cars supposed to run when in traffic, this one sits at a solid 90 on the gauge in traffic, is this normal or is it running a bit hot. Consider that I am in Africa and our summers are quite hot!

Jacques- Could be the vacuum accumulator pressurizing. Might be worth checking the hoses that go to the brake system and the pneumatic exhaust bypass valves for leaks.

90 C is great for a Maranello in warm conditions in traffic, especially in the middle of summer.

might also be the flux compasitator.

Holy hell, Taz, when do you not trying to give these guys, who know nothing, things to fix?

You have lead more guys on gooses chases than need to be. I have watched it for 6 years.

Let the pros do their stuff. post your charts, your reprints of manuals, and let the other guys turn wrenches.

Of all the cars you have owned, and all the cars you have......gotta ask..seriously..

Have you ever actually changed the oil your 575?

Other than standing under while the shield is removed, and then the tech showing you what is what, have you ever turned a wrench?

This comes from a guy who has dropped quite a few 911s, rebuilds crap in the garage, and does not trust rocket scientist.

I think SO Called rocket scientist are worse than lawyers. hehehehehe

Listen I think your post is uncalled for, during the time I have been on this forum Terry has contributed an immense amout to this community, especially when it comes to technical aspects of these cars.

In fact your is possibly the most insulting post I have read on F chat since I have been here.

PS Terry, took the car out this morning for a long drive and the noise appears to be gone.

do not give me any crap, I too can read a manual and spend all day looking at it. Taz will tell you that we have butted heads for years over some of his advice,

I have no doubt he is a great guy, he is passionate, caring, and smart as a whip.

The fact remains, I have a group of guys who care for my car and are sponsors on this site. Had I followed some of Taz's suggestions, I would be walking.

As to the Brian remark, read some of my stuff in Rossa, and get over it.

I do not take legal advice from Rocket scientist, rocket scientist should go to the moon, and Ferrari mechanics work on cars and lawyers should not build rockets.

Flame me, I am tough enough.

As to his technical stuff, no doubt, he has gathered more material than a normal person should, but to start telling people how to fix things is like doing surgery after reading AOL ask the Doc.MD

We are big boys here, doubt my reply is going to ruff his feathers, hell I will buy him single malts till he drops if he would let me.

He is an awesome guy with his literature, but I would not start tearing apart my car based on his analysis of things.

    Sorry, my 1 cent.

Just as an example of his knowledge and lack there of.......
A Barchetta would not have an F1 pump, it is a 550. There was not a pump for a F1 as it was never an option or being available until the 575.

Maybe that is you analysis, but to not even address that is just ridiculous.

Kaivball, not a jab. I love both of these guy's posts, and they are a
great part of the community, but some of the stuff flying around is just plain wrong.

For 6 years I have seen bad advice thrown out and then retracted later.

Reading and digesting a book does not make you an expert. If that were the case, I can tell you the next asteroid to hit the Earth as I like physics and mess around with it.

But I do law every day, know it, and do not tell my clients when the planet is going to explode.

As an aside, Terry is a great guy. He has helped me out with obtaining littérateur. He is probably one of the best guys in the world to seek documents on a 575, but taking actual advice on fixing a car? I pass.

Its easy to throw stones at others, perhaps you can enlighten us on your technical acumen, seeing as you mention Terry doesnt work on his own cars, perhaps you missed the part where he fitted Movitt carbon brakes to the car, thought perhaps that doesnt meet your definition of working on a car.

However a few posts back you mention you let others work on your car, great, perhaps this answers my first question.

Advice is like an opinion, everyone had it, some just offer more useful advice, much like some offer more relevant opinions.

For someone who eludes to being in the legal profession you dont comprehend too well. It was me who mentioned the F1 pump like noise in the initial post, the reason for this was to best describe the sound "as being like the sound of an F1 pump"

Are you serious? Like that Cadillac? Helll, dude, I have dropped and rebuilt more 911 engines than you have taken a dump recently. Do not Cadillac guys have constipation? By the way, ask him who put on the brakes.

Reading comprehension difficulties are rampant in America. I blame our school system.

Please point out where Taz mentions an F1 pump.

If you are going to lay into someone, may I suggest that you might want to be right before you do so.

lay off Dave, you want a chunk too? I have no problems with you, you are a good guy, as well is Terry. I am not attacking anyone, my point is that you need to trust a mechanic, not a guy with a book and too much time.

Sure I agree, take your 575 to a Toyota dealer, they have mechanics there too. My point is people like Terry do have knowledge of these cars and to assume just because someone is a mechanic they are competent is simply foolish.

Having knowledge allows one to express an opinion.

I agree, Terry is, and I have always maintained, a great guy. Do not get me wrong, but taking advice from a guy with a book on the internet is about as healthy as investing in the Nigerian Bank that emails you and wants to start a superfund in the stock market.

You say that you "do law every day". Are you an attorney? If so,how did you manage to get through high school, college, three years of law school, and a bar exam without learning correct English? During those English classes, was your compasitator always in flux and out doing gooses chases? Or were you sitting in on just enough French classes to learn how to misuse that language too?
