I dont own a F car, so as such never really have anything to contribute. I am a fan, and unfortunately I have to be registered to see alot of embedded pics. So, I did. I lay low as I said I dont have anything to contribute.......Im poor and own a Honda Fit...lol. I let you big dogs play, and watch on the sidelines.
bonylad: nice that you registered here. not all are rich in this forum, but all have the hobby: FERRARI and what you are doing, so watching the writing and looking at some nice pics is very much ok. this is almost better than writing a lot of sh... only to write something. I´m also not rich but my passion is also my hobby is also my job. and I enjoy very much. but if you ever have some money you may invest this in a ferrari. would be the best investment. for example: one of my 250 GT/E I baught from the junkyard in 1974 and I still have this car. at that time I payed 6 monthly salaries. the capital gain has been more than 6000 % in those nearly 40 years, taxfree
What a good job you are doing! It does remind me what I went through with my BBi the last year, although the rear frame was not rust damaged. (I will post pics in a separate thread one I can) I noticed you rebuilt the top end. Will not the new fresh heads now put more pressure on the old piston rings and crank? I ask this because although my engine has done 50k km and although compression and leak-down test on each cyl was all good, I considered rebuilding the heads for my peace of my mind. However, the guy who looks after my car discouraged me for the reason stated above. He said, either rebuilt the engine completely or leave it like this until it really needs to be rebuilt. What do you think?
never touch a running system so I would wait until the complete engine has to be done. because if you now do only the heads shortly later you put them away again, so double work and double prices for the gaskets. I would do nothing or if you want to do some disassemble the complete engine, meassure all, then put in only new rings and new bearings if the sizes are still ok.
Agreed. My BBi motor has got 30k original miles, so there is no need and as I said all is well with compression and leak-down test. It was just an insane idea I had... I wonder, however, if Bradan considered this aspect when he rebuilt the top end only. Just for my knowledge really.
Nice, and stirring words. Thanks for the perspective. Thanks again! Now Im going to quit so this thread can get back on subject!!!!
This thread is outstanding. 1 year in restoration so far. I have to ask, how much does it cost to do such an extensive restoration? And I have not see interior work or full paint job here... Is that car being put for sale? I am in CT. I'd love to stop by next time I go to the city. I love the 365 BB. in fact I have seen one in Blue one in connecticut that is in storage at blackhorse. Just gorgeous. Is the owner on this forum?
When I present my car here, I will answer you privately. I did my works in Italy, nearby Milan. If you take the value of a good Boxer, not the highest and certainly not the lowest (euros), for works like this I would say, you are looking at something between 20-30% of the value of the car. But I think I am somehow out of topic, as here we should probably leave the space to this fantastic restoration.
