Hope so. Now that they've softened the Viper some, this really immerses the car in the larger group referenced in the thread. Clearly, the scoreboard must've shown the 'counters that the bare-bones, sport-focused Viper was no longer a feasible business - but it was the only game in town. Think American F40 (or '60's Cobra, for that matter). Now they're going up against everyone - and everyone's pretty good these days. Tough bidness.

Good luck with that, new. And if your use includes track time please be courteous when the Viper fills your mirrors.

FWIW I do think this is a big price jump, but your comparisons cost plenty more

    Well said!

I am on my second Viper now (A 97 GTS). What I like about all Vipers is that they are second to none when considering the whole package. No other car has the performance, rarity, reliability and ease of maintenance for the money. Not one.

Where can you buy a turbo the for 120k unless its used? The new turbo will be somewhere in the 150k-160k range. The Audi R8 starts at 118k for the V8 and the 150k for the V10. Fully loaded V8 is almost 140k and the V10 about 170k.

Yes it is-and then some. At that price point you certainly are not able to buy a Porsche turbo. The mighty Viper will lay serious waste to either of those cars. The Audi is a giant disappointment on the track and struggles to stay ahead of a base Corvette.
If you haven't checked out the new Viper-do so-it is amazing.
85 K hardly buys a loaded Boxster these days.

Thanks, I managed to get some great shots at Sonoma. The embargo is over, so here goes.

On the surface, the big change is the interior and the seats. Still a small cabin, but it's a modern and attractive interior. New seats are awesome compared to before.

Mechanically, it's over 100 lb lighter than before and the Track Pack pulls another 50 lb out of it.

The new aluminum flywheel makes it more pleasing to drive - it was the first thing I noticed even before I knew they put a light flywheel in it. New short throw shifter is more satisfying, too.

Steering, brakes, handling, all amazing. Car hauls out of corners better than before, zero quirks with the handling. Massive front tires still tramline on the highway. Stability/traction systems are reluctant to intervene, not intrusive in the least.

Still 100% Viper. Not a poseurs car.

Feel free to read this for more - http://autos.sympatico.ca/premium-reviews/15122/2013-srt-viper-gts-super-snake - but excuse the non-enthusiast tone, it's written for a general audience.

It has alot of Ferrari 599 D.N.A in the "Looks" department......not a bad thing at all.

Very Nice in Yellow or Red.

I would say that Chrysler just upped the ante in the war for North American muscle car dominance. This is just like back in the late 60's when the Vettes, Hemis and Boss Mustangs battled it out.

Gotta love a good ol' rivalry :)

Finally saw the new Viper in person today. If they would just insert the round driving lights in the front grill it would be perfect.

Looks much better in person than in pics.

Went to the Autoshow yesterday and the Viper was my favorite by far. Really impressed with the looks and the quality of the car. I think for the money its the best sports car.

viper vs vette is going to be a classic comparison for next decade. i would take viper for natural aspirated engine and much more rare

btw, motortrend comparison tests are getting pretty good. better than cd and rt

Geez, the Viper boyz are focusing hard on the ZR1; sour grapes?
