We have skid plates for your 430.

These mount below your front bumper and take pretty much all of the beatings. (They weigh less than 4 lbs. installed)

They are made of black ABS plastic, come with hardware, and we will provide the template instructions for the Scuderia and 16M installation.

They are priced at $400.00 a pair, part number 6927430A

Feel free to contact me directly in the parts department. (info below)

On a normal F430 Coupe, do they bolt up to existing locations? Or is any drilling/modification required?

You will have to drill as they are mounted to the bottom of the bumper. Hardware is stainless. You will also have to drop your front under panel slightly to get to the nuts and washers on the inside.

Luckily Jason B. had to do an install this morning on a 430 Spider. Thank you Jason for letting me take spy photos while you did the work!

Jason removed the front under panel for access to the back side of the front bumper.
The tech uses spring clamps to position the skid plates to the bumper.
He then uses a center punch to mark the bolt locations through the plates onto the bumper.
Then he will drill the bolt locations with the plates in place.
black gum is used on a wrench to hold the nut/washer. There is not a whole lot of room on the inside of the bumper to work with.
He then uses a nylon wedge to create space where the bumper is a little closer to the front radiator frames (for wrench to clear)

As you can see, these skid plates look like they belong on the car.

Hope this clears up installation for you guys.

Do you have skid plates for the 599?

We do not have any skid plates for the 599. We had 360 plates for a while, but they were not nearly as nice and functional as the 430 pieces.

With the car off the lift, are these visible from any angle higher than the vantage point offered by kneeling on the ground? How thick are they? My car was lowered to Euro specs, but can still clear speed bumps without scraping. I have not actually measured the clearance I have in that situation, but wonder whether the addition of skid plates would cause me to start scraping in that situation.

They are 3/8" in thickness. We have another black spider out on the floor with these installed. The only indication that they are on the car is the in the wheel arch. You can see the tapered end just barely. If you walk around the front of the car you can't see them at all.

IMHO skid plates should be mounted directly to the chassis and clearance through spoiler panels.

These are merely to protect the paint on the bottom of the bumper. They also spread the impact out so the bumper does not crack. The old 360 bumper plates protected the bumper, but were so small that the bumpers would still crack.

On P 4/5 we mounted them as I've described and they can take a good high speed bottoming without damaging the car.

Excellent idea, I've always wondered why this wasn't done at the factory.

Can the skid plate be made out of aluminum?

Sure, they could be made out of just about anything. These are more like a teflon product They don't drag or promote friction as much as metal would. They would be able to take a better hit, and for a longer period of time.

We cannot claim that ours are better than any other one. Ours work as intended without impeding on the "look" of the car.

For the Scuderia and 16M these plates must be trimmed. They also do not cover the entirety of the Scuderia's under-bumper surface. They will on the other hand, cover the leading edge that gets most of the asphalts attention.

    Thanks for looking,

    BWF
