I have a 328, great car, maintenance is low, runs great!! Thinking of looking at the 348 spyder. Are maintenance much greater than 328. Thoughts on 348. THANKS

Short answer - probably multiply your 328's maint. costs by 3, at least.

take that 348 site, sprinkle in

    1. watch the headers
    2. watch the valve guides
    3. watch the key fob 96-on
    4. return to 2 timing belt configuration
    5. watch the finicky spider top with its seat potentiometers always crapping out

    and you have it.

Just curious why you are looking to move the 328? They are the best examples of the series and seem to be holding their values quite well. Heck, you'll possibly get more for your 328 than you'll pay for the 348 the way the market is right now!

With Ferraris it is not always about the money or value...I switched because after owning a 308GTS for a few years, then a 328GTS, it was simply getting a bit boring, and needing a little change. ;)

Sure thing - all good. I was just curious as to the OPs reasoning. There are so many classic Ferrari models that are desireable...what to do, what to do? :D

Classics are great, but we get spoiled with power and creature comforts. The 355 has so much more power, grip, brakes, and ABS. :) Plus it has an AC system that will actually keep up on a 90+ day (308 and 328...not so much). And even though I am only 5'8" tall, I always felt claustrophobic in a 308/328.

But I still drool over the look of a 308GTB or 308GTS...just a beautiful car, no doubt about it!

You cannot toss in the 550 as a comparison. Completely different car. 12 cylinders, more modern, more creature comforts. Also a lot more money. Probably comparable to a higher priced 355. Again completely different driving and ownership experience. If you favor the 550, get a Vette - it's simpler and cheaper.

    I have a 308 & 355.
Your 328 is getting old. Most rubber hoses, Bushings need replacement, and lots of general wear like shocks & ball joints & Steering rack. But you can do most of that work yourself.
The 348 is newer, but more sensors. Although you dont need a diagnostic box, it helps.

The 328 is engine-in major. I dont know about the 348, but the 355 is engine-out. Somebody can weigh in?

As said above, two very different machines.

I owned a 328 and sold it after a couple years and bought a 348.
In retrospect I wished I would have kept the 328.

sold the 348 after 6 years and was looking to replace it with a 328 but
    found a 355 spider instead.
328,,, if you have a good one I'd keep it and get whatever else.

    348 is engine out.

Considering the earlier post saying maintenance was 3 x as much for a 348 compared to a 328 I think I should go the other way and sell my 348 for a 328!

Yeah, there is no doubt that servicing a 308/328 is going to be easier and probably cheaper. But, the 348 has its own set of strengths over the 328 series.

The key, IMO, is being able to or having the tools/lift to pull the 348 lump out yourself. If you can do that or have access to a good lift then the car can be self-serviced. If not? F-car shops are like $100 bucks an hour. Yikes!

I plan to do the annual 6k / 12k service myself - in fact, it's due and I have all the service parts at home already. It's not practical for me to do engine out though - the car only just fits in the garage so that kind of maintenance isn't possible.

I have a '87 328 GTS and '98 355 spider (hyperflow cats and capristo III) and the 355 gets driven more by me. I usually take friends out for two hours and we switch halfway through the ride. Surprisingly, the 355 is preferred but not by that much. The 328 is classic.
