Amazingly enough the Velocity program has once again perpetuated the misinformation
about this GTO by saying that its only race was LM and that "someone" changed the
nose to have one slot instead of the three vents. For the last time this car WON
SECOND PLACE AT 1962 NURBURGRING and the nose was changed by the FACTORY!
These facts were established by Fred Leydorf when he visited the Ferrari Factory and
archives in the 1980's and he has undeniable certified proof contained in those old records,
    so STOP THE LIES!!

Here is my page on this great GTO:

I watched the episode last night as well. Thanks for correcting the misinformation Velocity provided on this public forum!

3765 must have been something to drive and enjoy!!! Can you share more about the experience?

The show in general was poorly edited. The images on the screen rarely, if ever, matched the dialogue.

I disagree about the undeniable and certified proof part.

Knowing what 3873 was late in 1962 does not help us one bit when we are trying to figure what it was or wasn't a few months earlier. One should at all times remember that records at Ferrari were maintained as a technical archive, not a historical one.

The GTO is owned by Jim Jaeger founder of Cincinnati Microwave (Escort-Passport Radar). I have seen this car on the street and it is staggering.

The 1000 km of the Nürburgring was held on May 27, 1962.
Completion dates of essentials of 3673SA:
    engine 62/oct/10
    rear axle 62/oct/10
    gearbox 62/oct/22
    consignment date 62/nov/11
How could this car have been at the Nürburgring as is being suggested by some.
This is to say 3765LM was the car at the Nürburgring.

I am under the impression that 3765 was the 1965 Sicilian Hillclimb Champion (if there is such a thing).

Try finding absolute proof that 3673 was not there clothed as a 4.litre development "GTO". Have tried for years and just can't do it.

The case is very similar to s/n 0404. Knowing what it was in 8/54 does not help us one bit when trying to figure out what it was in 4/54... Two separate cars not sharing ANYTHING but the number part of identity.

There's a story of Mairesse having a road accident in the vicinity of Maranello June 1962 breaking the chassis/car in half of a car which afterwards was altered into a 400 SA car with SWB body. Also there are some disturbing detail differences (fender lights positioning, painted/non-painted hood airscoops) between the Nürburgring car and the Le Mans car with less than 4 weeks in between.

I wonder what the facts behind that crash story really are. I also remember reading somewhere that the car in question would have been an early 250GTO going through extensive testing... Would be most interesting to know WHEN exactly the claimed accident happened - if it happened.

    Best wishes, Kare

Amazing so many stories/fables surround this GTO! I am always being asked to believe that the people who were there in the 60's, and owners in the 1970's and old timers that were still working in the factory in the 80's who all say/said that 3765 raced at Le Mans and Nürburgring are all wrong about its history.
