The first car I ever drove was a black Volkswagen Golf GTI with a 6-Speed. I haven't owned a car yet, but I am actually currently looking for a really cheap car, because I have a decent amount of money.

Never bought any of these as they were shop strays, but I consider them collectively as my first car. Although none were registered in my name, I had exclusive use of them.
    1) Monza 110 4 dr in this colour. Had major tinworm and never ran 100%, it was great fun in winter and had a decent ride. Steering was typical for 60's cars, very slow, but it was nicer to drive than conventional rivals made 15 years later imho.
    2) Simca 1204. Fun and reliable, parts availability was the problem. Wonderful car ignored by dealers, this and the Fiat 128 were exceptional to drive. I notice in this publicity photo they've loaded about 400 bls in the trunk to make the car's stance seem level and they did the same thing with the 128 press shots. I prefer the original hind up attitude, reminds me of a dog ready to play, perfect metaphor for both the 1204 and 128.....;)
    3) Opel GT. A customer left one with us after driving it while the water pump was disengaged ;). Dad bought it from him for maybe $300.00 and it became mine after a few hopeless months as our gopher cart. Since we shared a birth year, I thought there'd be a certain camaraderie between us but although it was a solid little car and drew plenty of attention, it was all style and little substance. Never liked it and was happy to move on.

It was a good car; took a lot of abuse. Got it stuck mudding in some woods off 3406. Also got quite skilled at using the emergency brake to lock the rear brakes and do 360s in empty parking lots....:)

I was seventeen and working full time in high school. '57 Chevy 2 door Bel Air, 327 c.i. '65 Corvette motor, Hooker headers, Holley 4 barrel, rated 375 h.p. 4.11 rear end, Borg Warner 4 speed. Bought if from a good friend who built it. 9 m.p.g. when cruising.
I remember coming home one night around midnight on the 4 lane main drag. No real traffic, then a '56 Chevy pulls up next to me, followed by a Roadrunner and Superbird behind us.

Hand me down from my parents...

'99 Toyota Camry. Parents bought it new; I got it with 250,000km on it in '05. Sold it in March '06 to a family friend for $7500... they totaled it shortly after.

It is a good car, ours is slowly breaking down and it only has ~70k miles on it. Needs a tune up, detail and some other work and it's all good. I spun it in the rain and came within inches from the curb.

my first car was a 1974 mgb. it was immaculate and was trick for its day...even had a nardi wood rim steering wheel, header and ansa exhaust, a weber 45 dcoe and phoenix shalflex racer 3011 tires on all 4 corners. those were the hot ticket in 1983.

I bought it back in '85. I still remember the sound of the 340 with blown mufflers and no resonators and the cool green glow of the dash lights when we brought it home. My dad had to drive it as I didn't have my license yet. Absolutely the coolest sounding car I have ever heard. I put a built 440 in it along with other modifications and drove it though high school. I still have it today and the new plan is to reunite it with the 340 and make it handle.

Lost pics but in 1980 at 16yr's old I bought a 1976 Datsun p/u with rims/tires and a straight exhaust, it was awesome except for the bucket seats that were not bolted down which led to very amusing cornering events lol!!

1984 Mini 1.0 with about... 34 hp? It went like sh** and broke down on the way home. Love can make you blind so I spent thousands of dollars trying to make it work but something always failed all the time. After a few months of constant in and out of workshops I got so sick of it. But nothing to this day beats the laughs we got when four adults came out of that tiny car at gas stations etc. :) I still hate it and today I would probably just take the engine out and put in on the grass outside as a decoration piece and let it rust in peace...

    89' Alfa Romeo Milano 2.5 V6 Gold

Kept it for two years before selling it. Loved every minute and was more reliable than most people think. It had the Ansa dual exhaust and sounded great, hard to forget the sound of that Busso V6. The best part of the Milano was the location of the window switches, which felt like you were on a plane. Every ergonomic amenity was total foreign and hard to locate for most people from the weird hand-brake, various switches, sliding glove-box and various other touches.

In two years I had to replace the radiator fan switch, burnt headlight, front lower-arm bushing and windshield washer motor. Not bad considering the car had been parked for over 3 years by the previous owner.

I'll probably buy another Alfa Milano or 164 soon.

No, the truck has been gone for a long time. My brother sold it while I was living in Virginia. The girl who bought it totaled it shortly thereafter.

I went from that truck to my parent's Oldsmobile, then I bought an A6 Avant. That was a POS so I bought the olds from my parents. Traded my wife's POS A4 in for the Fit.

I'm happy you had a positive experience. My '88 Verde ownership was the second worst car experience of my life after my 924S. Horrid is the best adjective I can come up with. The owner after me constantly called to ask for advice on other maladies. It was one car I so wanted to like and it let me down consistently. I still like the 75, but I'd only buy one that was completely sorted.

I feel that Alfa Romeo ownership is either the best thing ever or the worst thing. I have never owned one (although I would love a 156 GTA, they are really cool), but everyone I've spoken with who had an Alfa in the past, has either cherished or hated the experience.

    Very Ferrari-ish. ;) :D
