Hi guys, I have a 308 and I'm thinking of moving to a 360. I've searched on buyers guides only to really find discussions on what car to buy. Being a DIY guy I would like to know the common issues that cause problems with 360's I like the idea of a 360 because of the inspection panel which makes the belts job and more much more DIY. Can someone point me in the right direction ? thanks Lee
Lee, The 360 is definitely a major step forward compared to earlier Ferrari in terms of reliability. But even the reliable 360 have it's Ferrari "heritage" issues pass down from from previous generations that just scream of Ferrari. Things like sticky interior parts, broken headers etc. The biggest issues being discussed here frequently are the Pre-cat material in the header that breaks up and sucked back to the engine causing costly engine rebuilds. Other hard to diagnose issues being "Mis-fire" engine codes. Other minor other issues are: faulty oil temp sensor F1 pump overheating Motor/ transmission mount Shifter bushing (manual car) alarm horn battery goes dead Gear oil heat exchanger (oil gets mixed with coolant) Leaky roll over shut off valve on the gas tank Thrust bearing seal Hydraulic junction union leak for clutch A/C compressor leaking oil Some service bulletin items like: Cam variator belt tensioner bracket (cracking issue) starter ring gear (going to a 6 bolt) Good luck on your search, the 360 price have dropped a lot and are within reasonable reach for a Ferrari.
Some cars had the under aero panel come loose. If you get a spyder, the top can fail to come up sometimes as the computer gets confused as to which of the 100 steps it is at. When that happens, just point the car towards Maranello, make sure the air temp is at least 82, and scream ugatz at the car 3 times whilst holding your fingers like you picked your nose and are looking at a booger. DO NOT try to take off the clearbra without advice. The accelerator pedal can stick and you can end up going faster than the speed limit. Oh, wait, that is my foot sticking not the pedal. Never mind.
thanks, that's the kind of thing I was looking for I'll be looking for a manual car probably and I'm particularly keen on a 360 not just because of what it is, but that there is an inspection panel for accessing the front panel. The 308's are pretty easy to work on because of access so I wanted something similar. The only bug I have is that the car is a little wide for my driveway - over here we have little houses and little driveways! My garage is big enough though. I presume that the door mirrors fold in as they are my limiting dimension. I have a figure os 1925mm for the width of the car minus the wing mirrors. Does anyone know the width including the mirrors and then with the mirrors folded ? thanks Lee
yes the mirrors fold in---manually I have a 2004 6 speed and have had zero problems to speak of--other than people constantly taking pictures of it......good luck, you'll love the 360, just make sure you fully tighten the gas cap.
My car has been trouble free, sorry I can't be of any help. Look hard and buy the right car, it will take care of you
No, the problem passed on to the 360s too, and on to the 430 also. We will know in a couple of years if the 458 have header issues too. To compound the problem the 360 headers crack like the 355s, and model year 2000+ also have built in pre-cats that breaks up and can get suck back into the engine causing damage. Oh, yeah don't forget the sticky interior bits and pieces too. That also got passed all the way to the 458.
I have a 2000 360 6spd. The only problem as been a bushing in the shifter that needs to be replaced. If not it makes shifting in 1st and 2nd difficult. Other than that its been bulletproof.
Don't suppose you could get me a measurement of mirrors out and width with mirrors folder could you - please I'll remember the gas cap thing too. Lee
May I know if the Euro spec 07 430 has the pre cat problem in the header as well.? Sorry for off the topic a bit Thanks
I really don't know, I only heard from my friend who tells me that euro spec 430s don't have pre-cats in the header, I am just here to confirm Thanks
Lee, Approx 7ft out, in it would make no difference the car is approx 77" wide, the wing mirrors move in beyond that point. The info in the thread is pretty good, had a few of the issues mentioned with mine, but sure still worth it.
I don't know the answer but I can't believe you're the first person to ask this - try a search and I'm sure you'll find it
Thanks, that's the important bit then for me so I have a benchmark to the body width now I know the mirrors are flush or less. I guess most owners, particularly in the US, have big garages and driveways - over here, well I have a big enough garage, but the drive way is pretty slim so might be a problem. It will be tight, but I can reverse my 308 up the driveway into my garage without incident and do it regularly. Lee
