This is a new subforum off General Ferrari Discussion to have individual threads focused on Living and Passed (R.I.P.) people part of the Ferrari Universe.

    Rules
    1. Only one thread per person.
    2. Thread title is just person's name (First Middle Last).
    3. Thread prefix required, either [Living] or [R.I.P.].
    4. Facts or positive comments only. If you want to make negative comments, post them in your own thread out of this forum.

Let me know if any feedback.

Thank you to bitzman for the idea,
    rob

    Hi Rob,

Just curious if there should be some sort of protocol in place about FerrariChat members who have made outstanding contributions to the Ferrari community. Should they be invited to start their own threads or have permission sought to start a thread about them?

I don't know if I'm seeing a potential problem where none exists, but it seems odd to create a thread entitled "John Doe is Username [living]" on the forum when some of these members elect not to fully complete the 'name' part of the profile to assist in privacy.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Should there be some sort of nomination process for people?

Should there be categories for drivers, factory people, entrants, historians, general community?

I have ideas on some who I believe are significant although I would not be the person to write their bio. Would it be appropriate for Rob/moderator to start threads with the names for others to make contributions?

Some names I would propose that meet the threshold of worthy:

    Stan Nowak
    Luigi Chinetti
    Dick Merritt
    Columbo
    Lampredi
    Jess Pourret
    Antoine Prunet
    Brenda Vernor

Nominating is a good idea.

I nominate James Glickenhaus for services to Ferrari roadcars in the form of the Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina, ongoing services to Ferrari racecars (and Ferrari vs. Ford - Part II) in the form of the Scuderia Glickenhaus P4/5 Competizione, and tireless services to Ferrari enthusiasts by always making himself available for a chat about the cars. :)

    All the best,
    Andrew.

I think someone else needs to start threads, but then person can choose to contribute or not if they are a user. Maybe we should leave usernames off thread titles, people can figure out username if that person chooses to post. Some users still want to be anonymous, even if there is a thread on them.

Down the road with many names there may be a need for categories.

It would be nice if the first post contains a good base of info, but in many cases we just need someone to get it going. Maybe mods or I can edit the first post as more info collected Wiki style.

i think Ed Niles would deserve a thread. He has posted so many wonderful historic pics of the countless Ferrari he has driven/owned over the years.
    who can do that?

Might not be the greatest Ferrari design house, but they did do a couple pretty fantastic cars. Oh and a whole lot of Alfa, Fiat, Maserati, and Lancia classics. I don't have a whole lot of info to start a thread but a tour of their facility a few years ago was certainly impressive enough!!

With so many worthy Competitors, Drivers, Team bosses, serious enthusiast owners, writers, Collators of Ferrari model/chassis numbers, and not forgetting all the wonderful Employees of Ferrari and their old Distributors -- How do you begin to put an order to 70 years of history.

I have been so lucky to have met many of those mentioned and many more and even with those memories it would be so good to"Be able to turn the clock back " and ask all those questions that time didn't allow or those which didn't seem so important at the time.

Having spent on my first Ferrari I wish I had had a 35mm camera and not a 126 quickey.

Today with digital it is so easy although I wonder if todays enthusiasts value the magic they have at their disposal or if most of the digatl photos of today just get wiped as time goes by.
