Wait, wait, wait... I'm getting the impression they are saying the car will not be P4/5 Competizione, but based off of another Ferrari completely...??? So Jim, are you just going racing with another one-off, or is this still P4/5 Competizione? _J
599XX... Wouldn't really make sense to start from the chassis up on a 599... P4/5 took quite some time and this Competizione idea hasn't been on FerrariChat for two years. Although for the more conspiratorial minded, it would be interesting to have a Vandenbrink GTO Competizione... _J
It will look like P 4/5 with competition modifications. It will be on a Ferrari Chassis that we will modify. It will be powered by a Ferrari V 12. (Assuming we get a Sponsor)
Jim, The reason you are not going the Enzo way is because of the active aero body ? (is it illegal for the Nring race?) or another reason ?
Maybe instead of guessing and prodding, we should all just wait and see what finally results. If I read this correctly, when this happens, it will be first class or not at all. After the last few years of following the P4/5 development to fruition, when there is information, JG will without hesitation let everyone know. I've been wrong before, but.......
Front engined... impossible to build a P4/5 body on that chassis. Of which I posted an impression some pages ago. Here are P4/5 Competizione and 599 GTO Ecurie in one post: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=138782555&postcount=7
Jim, I just read about your plans and want to wish you all the best. I will surely go to the races to see that beast when everything has worked out. Great thing you are doing! Forza Ferrari! Michiel, Great job with PS! It has been a while since we heard from you. Is everything allright? Best regards, Vu
As you've consistently said it'll have a V12, I like this 'informed' opinion on that site: I didn't know the F2004 had a V12 in it... good thing the FIA never found out our favourite team was running an extra two cylinders that year! All the best, Andrew. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Chas, you might find these quotes interesting: I gather MC12 was the road-going name of the Maserati Corse Competizione (MCC, as it was called during development). Someone please correct me if I'm wrong though... I don't really know a lot about Maserati. All the best, Andrew.
So if I understand it correctly the chassis will be: - Mid-engined - V12 - No carbonfiber So most logical would be a 360/F430/458 with a V12? Don't know it that fits? And isn't that chassis too small? Or can the 333 SP chassis be modified to use a modern V12? Or is that chassis also made of carbonfiber?
What I don't understand is why everyones thinking so hard about it being built off of an existing Ferrari. Why can't it be built off either an existing rear engined racecar chassis or even yet built off a fresh chassis built just for this racer. Yes the second thought would be quite expensive and time consuming but it is always possible. I'm sure Jim is looking at all possible options at the moment and things like this take time. Once he has made his choice on how he's going to go about this he will reveal whatever details he wants. Hey Jim if you need any hands for this project I'd be willing to help. I'll be out of school in time for the Nurburgring 24 hour and wouldnt mind going out to Germany to help you guys. Alex
