Probably the best 10 minutes of internet video time I have enjoyed in a long time! Made me feel like I was back there again... All it needed was a section of torrential rain and a donkey cart blocking my way round a blind corner! Cheers, Bill
interesting - thank you for the link. but why did they use formula cars that were never raced at the targa and why the wrong number for the P4 ? was a lot of work to do this, but why not pay attention to those "details".
Would love to be in Sicilia again, when our daughter is old enough to go with us. now she´s six month, so it will take 2-3 years . we had a great time in 2005. some memories ... Jim and Jesse in the great 002C and Jean Robert pushing in our rearview mirror - what a sound ! Wonderful graphics, particularly the scrawled cheers for the Ferrari drivers and the tabacchi and weathered road signs. Fred
The track was created for the sim 'Grand Prix Legends' which is based on the 1967 F1 season, hence the reason for the GP cars. A car pack was made containing '67 GT cars, which is why the p4 is there. Unfortunately, the game doesn't let you pick your own car number or specify the other car's numbers unless you edit some text files deep in it, otherwise it auto-assigns them, hence the incorrect numbers. Pretty much every classical track from the period is available in the sim at this point (I believe even a shortened version of the Mille Miglia). The graphics have continually been updated and are very good considering it was first released in 1998!
the game is quite old Jim, so will likely play with good frame rates on almost any PC of the last 6 - 7 yrs
If you want to play it at high res with all of the updated graphics, you just need a half way decent video card. It also has support for force feedback steering and shifting with clutch. If you want to get it set up, send me a PM and I can point you in the right direction.
Ditto. The sim has other such delights as the full lengh (old )Spa and Nurburgring(both Nordschliefe and Sudschliefe),Monza sans chicanes(even the banked version too),a 67 Monaco that beggers belief,Isle of Man,Dundrod ,Bremgarten,Sebring,Solitude,Avus,Charade,Reims,Clermont Charande ,Zandvoort,Kyalami, etc etc etc etc There's 65,66,67,69 GP season carsets available, and the 67 sportscar season is in the works..
I've never "indulged" in this kind of thing (my computer is too old and slow), so I'm ignorant about it, but I see that Bill's post above says something about "10 minutes of internet video time", and the fastest lap of the Targa in 1967 was 37 minutes and 9 seconds, so I take it that this isn't a simulation of a full lap?
The simulation will be of a full lap, but the video doesn't show the whole thing. According to the site it's 44.73 miles and 567 turns. And I thought the ring was tough to learn...
