Oh my....what a track car that would be! I guess Porsche is getting big into the centerlocking wheels.
Plus they are on the 2010 GT3 - so they have to be on the GT2 RS - and also most certainly the same size on the yet to be announced GT3RS. But no color difference left to right on the nut like the Carrera GT though
The GT-2, is one of the best modern cars you can buy. I hope the GT2RS, will soon be offered for sale.
Gotta do something to catch that wascally GTR. You know; the "stock" one. An only if Walter Rohrl knew how to negotiate the ring. Boy Howdie.... Porsche may then have a keeper
About $4000 additional profit. Surprised some accountant didnt come up with this before. Ceramic brakes ? Bah ! $10 extra bucks of materials and a bit of machining gets you center locks. They DO look Kewl !
Porsche knows that most of the buyers buying a GT2/3/RS will take their car to the track. If they start putting them on Caymans, Cayenne's and Targa's, we know they went over their heads, if you get where I'm going with it.
p rips off on options but might have to give p a pass on the new wheels. i think theyre std and with all the new additions sticker is not that much higher. theyre supposed to be lighter too.
I'm a big fan of the GT2 series. If this RS takes off that would be great. PS; pics show standard 5 bolt wheels. Ive seen pics of center locks on a 996GT3 and they do look wicked. Main purpose for center locks is for fast wheel changes. IMO most track day cars don't need this but it does give a "one up" opportunity and, after all, thats what its all about, No ?
have you ever seen the torque wrench required for a center lock? 400 ft pounds of torque!! Its 4 feet long. What a pain in the ass that will be to take to the track. Got news for you most people who buy GT2's dont take them to the track. It gimmick pure nonsense. Wanna go to the track. buy a track car. Just an FYI I have been going to the track with the Porsche club for going on eight years.
If i wanted a track car i'd buy a GT3 or one of the GT3 derivatives. I'm been to quite a few track days and have only ever seen 1 996 GT2 on the track
Big fan of 996Gt3's but a 2 is.... MORE ! Saw a 996GT2 whoop up on a Lambo Murci 560. Both were going for it with drivers that actually knew what they were doing. A rarity in both.
I agree, if I was big into track days, I would get a gt3. I have seen several Gt2's at tracks in southern California. I saw one guy really driving a semi raced out one a while back. That was a sight. Amazing car.
The 2 is faster on the track. It takes a lot more driver, to use the two to it's advantage on the track. It is much more difficult, to drive the two on the track.
