Yes the owner of this car has the documentation to prove, he owns a car museum and only purchases actual movie cars.

This Car is not the car at the Volo, the car at the Volo is the 2nd Car which was partially restored and selling for 139K

    Completely agree.

I lived in Miami for a year in 1986. Amazing time. TV show was in the later years. South Beach was making a big comeback.

In 1984 South Beach was SCARY--pimps, dealers, crooks everywhere. The glitz and glamor of MV actually had a big influence on its revival.

As for the music and stuff, there is a great story--I believe it to be true--that when Michael Mann was trying to conceptualize a new TV show to take the country by storm, that he wrote on the back of a napkin: "MTV Cops."

Sometimes the greatest ideas are that simple.

FUNNY THING, though. My formative years are just a few years earlier. My show of choice was Magnum PI.

What do Magnum and MV have in common?

Helicopters and really really bad men's wear choices.

BTW, wonder what Jack Lord's big Mercury 4-door hardtop would be worth nowadays?

I heard that they used an actual original Mercury!

I wonder what ROBIN3 would cost, you know the Audi 2000? I wonder if it was real or just a kit car riding on a VW Jetta chassis. ;)

What about Perry Mason's big Lincoln Convertible - wait, wait ---

I would humbly like to request the honor of throwing the first stone that gets this thread moved off the Ferrari Discussion section...

One of these replica cars was shown at a local display here late last year and what surprised me was the casting of the cam (rocker?) covers which said something like
"Daytona" or "Ferrari by Daytona" or something like that (I can't recall correctly). Given the hassle Ferrari Spa gives the owners' clubs over the use of the name etc, I can't understand why they let these abominations run free?

Intake manifolds to mate Webers to American V8s have been available since the 60's.

$139K for a McBurnie is probably about $100K high.

    They ain't makin' no more!

Consider leaving it as-is, and sell it to the Volo Auto Museum.

    Interesting.

Most of the action shots I recall from the series, it was obvious the car was an auto.

Where is the old school "corded" car phone?

    Any pics of the engine?

Supposeldy one of the show cars had a Gail Banks designed twin turbo-ed V-8........ is this the one?

    Hi Dom.

Yes, it is getting closer to completion, it should be ready for paint in a week or 2. It has been a long project, I cant wait to hear her roar again.

Thanks for the added photos. The best part of the interior are the three vents on the top of the dash. Other than that everywhere yu look it is wrong. The less that is done to this car the better it will be. Other than a better paint (body/mold imperfections) job.

I'm sticking with this. Get rid of the rear side reflectors with the new paint job. Then add the Daytona exhaust pipes.

i think its cool that the car will be preserved as a part of history, Miami Vice did influence many of us that are now in our 30's+.

The Modena had a custom frame, not one taken from a production car. Nonetheless, they are still in production as the CalSpyder II, http://www.calspyderii.com/Welcome.html

Thanks for the pictures! It looks like it has had more than a few changes made to it since its TV star days. But then again I guess most old TV stars have had a little plastic work done. ;)
