why is 1955 missing from that sequence? He drove for Ferrari that year. maybe that's a clue?

Perhaps something to do with his role in a certain event at Le Mans that year?...

had thought about that, but he was driving for Jag at LeMans and the cars on the trophy are formula cars so I doubt that's it.

It does not look like the The Hawthorn Memorial Trophy. It is really a good question

He did not have any F1 wins in 1955, that is why it is omitted. And he retired after the 1958 season. It seems to be a trophy from ferrari for his years of F1 with Ferrari. Nice piece.

didn't race for Ferrari in '52 or '56. and no wins in '56 or '57. hmmmm.....

it would seem to be some kind of "retirement" trophy as you suggest.

Thanks for all of the replies. A little more research has uncovered the following: apparently, the trophy is an internal factory trophy given to drivers who've won multiple championships. We should have more information tomorrow.

Thanks. It's only slightly more than the trophy. :)

I'll have to see about the financing aspect of things, though I doubt it. The trophy will be on eBay soon.

    Dear Universal Autosports,

This must be a farewell gift after Mike Hawthorn stopped his career.
In 1952 Mike Hawthorn was already driving a Ferrari F2 car.

    Regards, Fokke van der Meer.
