Let us know what you think, Jack. I love my copy, it's one of the most interesting art car books ever made.

Heads up on an interesting book coming out if you are a McLaren fan, got this in my inbox today from The Motorsport Collector:

    ***

Today, we want to give you a 'heads up' on a very special book that we expect to arrive in July. It's from Coterie Press and could be in the running for 'Book of the Year'.

    Check it out:

McLaren - The Cars 1964 - 2008 by William Taylor
"Produced with the full co-operation and endorsement of the McLaren Group"

The complete and comprehensive study of McLaren road and race cars, from the first sports racer produced by Bruce McLaren's intrepid little team in 1964 to the ultra sophisticated Formula One Grand Prix cars engineered by the McLaren Group at their massive new Woking corporate headquarters in 2008.

'McLaren - The Cars 1964 - 2008' is a high quality, 304 page, large format (12x12) hardback publication and is illustrated by 750 color photographs - most of which were commissioned for this project.

The book features an in-depth study of every McLaren model, a foreword by Ron Dennis and chapter introductions by Team McLaren stars such as Emerson Fittipaldi, Niki Lauda, Alain Prost, Mika Hakkinen and Lewis Hamilton.

A comprehensive appendix provides complete race results and specifications.

I'm waiting for the Doug Nye/Phil Hill book, "Inside Track." My understanding is that the book is to autobiographical, with emphasis on the many photos Phil took while racing in Europe. Does anyone have any information on when this is coming out? (I know...Doug Nye is a new FChat member, but I don't want to nag him).

Another book to look out for: The English version of "Brothers Rodriguez", supposedly coming out in September by David Bull Publishing.

Thanks...I reserved mine over a year ago. The web site hasn't been updating the publication date.

I'm sure Phil's health has something to do with the delay, most unfortunately..

One I forgot - the official Ferrari brochure for the F50 - 1002/95. The badge on the front cover, the quality, the fold-out pages, and it is a numbered limited edition. It's one of my favourites, and can still be picked up on Ebay.

Agreed. That one is awesome. That made my list above as well. The best brochure Ferrari has ever made. (distant second were those large fold-out-forever ones for the F40,348 adn Mondial)
I managed to snag mine from the dealer near me back in 95 or 96. I remember i was browsing the boutique and half-heartedly inquired if there was any new brochures available and was gobsmacked when he uncovered this. Considering how rare i make it out there the odds of that happening is quite low. Needless to say i didnt have to asked if i wanted it. (I HAD to buy it after all the drool got on the gatefolds...)

I have the "normal" book-board edition.
Or do you have the carbon-fiber covered only-given-to-purchasers-of-the-car-but-can-stil-be-obtained edition?

    Hi Grant
I only have the 'normal' edition. I have seen the carbon-fibre on Ebay but it's 'too rich' for me. I'm just your normal impoverished enthusiast.

I saw it when it was for sale and, let's just say, it is one of the more interesting and unusual books I've ever seen. It is called "Libro d'Oro Ferrari", with a limited run of 3000 copies, Editalia edition by Gruppo Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato. The book contains 84 pages, out of which 25 are in 999,99 proof gold. Usually comes in a plexi case with cotton gloves for handling. Asking price for the copy I saw was 8,500 Euros. Disclaimer: picture copyright belongs to the Italian seller of copy 754, I hope he does not mind me using them for illustration purposes.

I have the carbon fiber addition, from what I understood when I bought it it was called the presentation book for the F-50 and each car had one. There were a few extras copies that were out in the public. What is really sad is the guy I got mine from had 2 copies for sale and I only bought 1(200.00 each) this was back in '96 IIRC. What is interesting is that on my last page the copy # area is blank. I guess at least mine wasn't robbed from a car.

    Dear collectors,

I was wondering if someone could help me answering a question regarding this book:
    http://www.libreriadellautomobile.it/English/ViewBook.asp?IDBook=5307

This book was published in late 1997 by Giorgio Nada Editore, and almost instantly afterwards the "trade edition" of this book became available, I believe in 1998. Also a hardcover (with red dustjacket) but without slipcase. My question: is the yellow slipcased limited edition actually the very first edition of this book and does that make the "trade edition" somewhat like a 2nd print run? Or were they both published at the same time and is the slipcased edition simply a more special version of the same book? (Like was the case with many other books, for instance the leather bound issues of Racing in Color by Chris Nixon, Nathan's Boxer book or Klemantaski & Ferrari).

    Best regards

The red version is the "not for sale" edition, given to owners, guests, dealers, vips, etc. by Ferrari. The yellow version was the sales version to be sold by Ferrari and it's dealers. there should also be a very limited gold version to be given away by Luca di Montezemolo and I saw a version only for sale at the owners site a few years ago (thought it was black).

All these books heve the same content.

Thanks for finding that. Quite a unique undertaking for a book. Incredible.

lol... "a few extra copies" whether its cars or books Ferrari can break its own rules...
Congrats on getting an even-more-rare edition. I have never seen one up close... in pictures it obviously looks like any other since its painted re...Can you see/feel the carbon fibre?

Yeah I got a chuckle after I typed that too who knows how many "extras" there are. You can definitely tell its carbon or plastic or something other than fiberboard. You can see the weave and when you tap your finger nails on it it has that hard plastic tone to it. I had no idea how rare it was when I bought it I ran across a comment a few years ago somewhere on what it was that I had. Being a book collector I just thought it was a cool.
