Does Maserati follow the same belt requirement service as Ferrari? I never hear owners talking about major services and ppi's?

The current Maseratis do not use belts to drive the camshafts; they use chains.

A new Quattroporte with the detuned 430 engine was designed with chains instead of belts? Why doesn't Ferrari do this in their engines?

They test "new technology" in the Maseratis first, before it goes in the Ferrari

Interesting...so the 430 replacement should have chains instead of belts eliminating a "major" service?

Yeah me too . Real odd. I could'nt really believe. I own a Porsche 944 2.5 Turbo and had the same problem twice.

Reportedly, the Ferrari preference for belts over chains stems from desiring reduced engine noise. It took Ferrari a while to get the clue that their owners do not like 3-5 year belt change intervals in a world that has passed up use of timing belts some time ago. :)

Ferrari dealers stay in business with those belt changes to the tune of 7-15k dollars... thats how they stay profitable.. its certainly not the profit they make on selling new cars... the preowned dept and service dept are the ones that bring the dealers into the black... also, it is how your favorite factory technicians feed there families...

Every new Ferrari is sold at list or above (except the 612). They turn the cars within a week of receiving it. (No floor plan required). They make more profit on the sale of a new car than a used car. Unlike every other dealership where the opposite is true.

Correct but with the allocation being so small, they need the used cars and service dept. to continue business. Selling new cars is great, but if you get 5-6 a month, you better have something else going on.
