No doubt. One word popped into my head every time I saw the Christies' advertisement, or read the catalog.

    Desirable!

It is a phenomenally desirable car; beautiful to the eye, great charismatic history, tasteful restoration, a car which at any price would provide great pride of ownership. Screw resale and market values. Cheers to the new owner!!

I totally agree...that car was stunning....if I had hit the lottery this week...I would have been out there bidding on it...sadly...oh well...I drove my 355 to the office today to get over the loss!

I expected the car to fetch $ 1.000.000+ but this is totally awesome, but never enough considering the beautiful job Mike has done on it. Truly one of the prettiest Ferrari´s out there. With and without the McQueen-factor.

As in any other context, when a proposition offers something unique, the sky is the limit. This Lusso certainly gave the buyer ample motivation to spend money on something only he (or she, or they?) can lay claim to having. My guess is the buyer will possess another $2M long before he'll find another McQueen Ferrari.

Perhaps this success will mean s/n 10453 will hit the market in the near future?

Does anyone know where the car is going home to? US buyer, or will it be heading overseas?

That price is insane! I guess there were a lot of serious buyers haha! Must have been a great scene to watch and now the price of all McQueen cars will go up like his Jaguar XKSS

He IS a fellow chatter, the Owner, the restorer as well, and bought it years ago for under $100K per one article I read, hence his "Lexus" comment..

Good payday for him but it wasn't 'hundreds' of hours but more like 4000 to restore, someone do the math!

He's a well known resto guy.......used to take care of a collection......

His comment about the screw heads was hilarious!

$527.50 an hour, per my receptionist's math....

$2.3M, less $100K purchase, less $100K material allowance/4000 hours labor.

Dunno, that's the kind of Hand Grenade Mathmatics we use in my business! LOL!

    *shrugs shoulders*

    Gotta go, hurricane incoming.......;)

A pair of his sunglasses sold for $60,000 USD a while back....so I'd say you are 110 % correct. The first nice watch I am going to buy myself is a TAG Heuer Monaco.....blue with a blue strap......go figure why......

    Here is another burning question....

If this Lusso had not been linked to McQueen in any way at all and it had come to auction would it have brought a top Lusso price? Like $650K or something?

Or, would this Lusso be viewed by the marque experts and such as horribly over-restored? Like the article said, no Lusso ever left the Ferrari factory looking anything remotely close to this good. How many hours spent making the paint perfect beyond belief? Screw heads all lined up to perfection? Eat off the sump? You read so much about the over-restored "issue" and I wonder how the serious Ferrari collectors and experts (as opposed to McQueen fanatics) would view this car were it being evaluated as just a car?

Personally the "over restored" thing is something of a joke. I could fix that in about an hour: just turn some screw heads, let my 4 year old daughter play around inside it while I take it for a quick drive down a local dirt road. PRESTO, instant reversion to original condition! ;)

agreed - except when it comes to cars with everything under the bonnet chromed etc

i think its a bit of a ridiculous situation when ppl spend hundreds of thousands for a restoration and insist on crap paint and shoddy workmanship "cos thats how it came from the factory"

You got it......I moved my cars from Houston for Rita, and then a tornadoe hit the barn they were hidden in! LOL!
Threw parts of the roof two miles...we had to go get them...

Not as scary as the Longhorn that jumped right over the hood...........didn't scuff it, though.....

Safe behind AJ ....HE'S not gonna blow away. Too many chicken friend steaks!!!! :)

    Sorry for hijack.

Tell us where the car turns up. I suppose there's a good chance it'll never be seen by the general public again......:(
There ARE some folks that way.........have a great time Mr G.!!!!!!

Obviuosly wasn't him, he was in the tent! ;)
