The new engine on the 2007 SL55 AMG with 517HP and 720Nm is a much better improvement over the 2006 SL55 AMG. Better response, higher top speed. Had a chance to try mine the other day to it's maximum. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
pretty sure they can top 200MPH/320KMH... only one way to find out, try again with less fuel and see what happens...
I had a wind blowing directly at us doing that speed, so I am pretty sure with no wind, less fuel and without a passenger it can go faster.
That car's definitely a sleeper ... we had one at our cruise in March and none of the gawkers gave it a second look, but it sounded great and was amazing to ride
I did not know there was any 07 sl55 amg...Me think any SL thats an 07 would be a 63????..certainly there is no power bump to the amg 5.5 komp.from 06 to 07 ...please elaborate!
I had both, a 2005 and now a 2007 SL55 AMG. The 2007 is the facelifted SL, however it's a very mild facelift. The 2006 SL55 AMG has 500HP and 700Nm of torque, whereas the new facelifted 2007 SL55 AMG has 517HP and 720Nm of torque. The 63 engine is not available on the SL model. It's available on all models except the SL.
Not available on the G either, only the 55 motor as of now. I have heard many prefer the 55 over the 63 because it has more torque down low. Sl55's are gorgeous, enjoy it and drive carefully
True and the 63s are naturally aspirated. Both engines have more or less the same horse power, but the 63 has less torque (about 630Nm).
Nice. I had the opportunity to test drive an E55 AMG a while back. Certainly quick, took it up to "only" 120 mph (190 km/hr) and very transiently since it was a public road, but it was quick reaching that speed. The road feel left something to be desired though, I felt a little disconnected from the driving experience. Have to try the newer versions when I'm free.
I just adore the monsterous torque these engines can give you. The car is very responsive and accelerates at any speed and at any rpm. Great gearboxes to handle all that torque.
