A question for the historian types: how far back has Ferrari been licensing/selling engines in F1? This is what I've found from 97 to today -- does it go further back? Yes, I know they sold F1 cars back in the day, but those were complete machines, not just drivetrains.

You are missing the 2001 Prost, although the Ferrari powered car wasn't used all season. Engine was badged as "Acer".

Also in 1991 there was a Minardi F1 powered with a Ferrari engine.

PS: I collect models of all Ferrari F1 including the customer cars. :)

What about the cooperative deal with Lancia for the D50, does that count?

I'd say that one went the other way round: Ferrari used Lancia D50 and rebadged them as Ferraris. So the Scuderia was actually the customer.

Came across a weird bit of trivia in the latest issue of "Octane", which has a special because of 60 years of Ferrari. They list 60 factoids about Ferrari including what Ferrari engines have been used in other F1 cars (fact #43 in their list): Aside from the ones mentioned here, they also name Cooper.

    Cooper?

Anybody know more about this? I'm stunned to say the least.

There were two different Coopers using Ferrari engines.

The "Cooper-Castellotti" ran three events in 1960, a DNQ at Monaco and two DNF's, at France and Italy. It had 555 Supersqualo 4-cyl engine. Driven by Scarlotti and Munaron.

The other Cooper-Ferrari was raced in 1966 at Great Britain (11th) and Germany (DNF). It was powered by a 250 GT engine. Driven by Chris Lawrence.

There also were a few Cooper Monaco sports cars with Ferrari 250 engines. Most Cooper Monacos were sold without engines, or if they were sold with an engine, it was a 2.0 or 2.5 liter Coventry Climax 4-cylinder. So a variety of engines found their way into the engine bays of these cars. I owned s.n. 59-006 for a few years and it had an aluminum Buick v8. I found magazine articles showing Monacos with Chevy 283 v8s, Maserati v6s, and Ferrari 250s. One of the Cooper Monaco 250s is now in the Seattle area.

Per Super Aguri's site, they've always been Honda powered. That was sort of the whole point of the team

Of course, but that still doesn't explain why F1DB thinks they used also a Ferrari engine. Did they maybe test with that engine? Also where did they get that engine from?

I realise this has already been answered, but I found this article about the 1960 Italian GP interesting: http://www.forix.com/8w/i60.html
You can get models to complete your collection here:

Oops! No you can't. They are out of stock! Sorry.

I'm glad you're keeping this thread alive, much appreciated.

You didn't include the Cooper from the early sixties.
    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=136744557&postcount=10

    Otherwise looks fine.

I found the 1960 Cooper-Ferrari on ebay and kitbashed a 66 Cooper with a Ferrari engine from the time, so I'm covered there. My biggest problem re: the collection is the 92/3 Dallara. There simply isn't anything around and the livery on that car is so difficult to make.

PS: I just ordered the 2008 Force India car to add to my collection of Ferrari powered F1s.

    :)

I wanted to wait until I have it complete, but that might still take more years to come. At this point I'm missing less than 10 cars, so maybe I could post something.

I got the idea at Maranello's Galleria, where Ferrari has all its cars in 1/43 scale on display. I thought I'd like to go one better and add the customer cars as well.
