The second car was for sale last July at Motor Car Gallery in Florida.
The ignition has been modified, the dinoplexe ignition module is missing.
The ferrari stickers on the mirrors are strange.
I'm with you on the blue dash (yuck)
Shows 5,000 miles. Is that 105,000?
Pretty nice that it only has Euro side markers and not the big rectangle US ones. Not very many US cars are like that.

The first car was also for sale at Motor Car Gallery but in November of 2003.
What is that green colored cable/wire near the oil filters? Not OE.
I could be wrong here, but isn't the steering wheel missing the center pad?

I looked at and drove the first one, 43665, in 1998 when it was for sale by The Stable in Gladstone, NJ. At that time it showed 40,000 miles, had a new clutch but seemed to have weak 2nd gear synchros. They had a pile of receipts for work done on the car, mostly trying to keep the alternators working enough to keep the battery charged, as I recall, plus the new clutch.

It was offered again by The Stable 4 years later in 2002, having covered only 1,150 miles since 1998. Then over the next 3 years it sold twice at RM Auctions, once in Michigan (2004) and once in Florida (2005). It also was advertised for sale twice by Motorcar Gallery, once in 2003 and after the Florida auction sale in 2005. The mileage indicated in May 2005 was 41,820. only 730 miles added since 2002.

For some reason no one seems to love this car, at least not enough to keep it and drive it.

While it had some issues in 1998, nothing seemed so terribly wrong at the time other than the price, which was asking $34.5K and I passed. Later sale prices were in the mid-low $20's at the auctions.

Those "stickers" on the mirrors aren't that strange. Seems to be standard Ferrari in the early to mid 80s. 308s had them as well..they're metal badges in the plastic Vitaloni housing.

Yeah..shame the interior combo on that blue car. You're right, no drilled sheetmetal for the side markers, a great exterior color and a 5-speed. SO close. <G>

I've never seen a 400 with those oval mirrors on that year. None of the early 365/400 models had the oval, they were "rectangle" without the emblems.

The rear quarters look so much cleaner with out US markers. I like the look of mine with just the front Euro markers.

Is the overhead console on the blue car added on, or did the later 400s come with it? The dash is very tacky looking, kinda like it came straight out of a Fiat!

Overhead console is factory standard for a 400i with rear A/C.
And the dash looks much better in black. <g>

If that blue car had a black interior, I'd be freaking out over trying to get back to Illinois to pick it up.

My 83 has the Vitaloni mirrors with the metal Ferrari emblems on them. The reason one of the emblems looks a bit strange on the EBay car is that it appears to have a chip out of it.

I'm the current owner of the car. Yes i bougth it from motorcar gallery.
Intresting how many poeple gave me a lot of information. Too bad "the stack of paperwork" disappeared. Yes the car still has that alternator issue. No there is no 2nd gear syncho problem anymore. No there is nothing missing at stering wheel. I sell because the car has no catalic converters (there is a treath out about that).

Seems as though lots of 400i have California BAR stickers. Catalytic converters with custom made ends to fit into the exhaust system should be less than $2K (and Amerispec included a set of "test pipes"). A 400i with new and modern cats is a very clean car. What else is needed in California?

The later style mirrors came in with the S2 with the updated interior in late 1982

Hey! That's the silver on red car I was trying to look at 2 weeks ago in California. I left my number to tell Stanford to call the owner and ask him to give me a call, but never heard back. I guess the owner pulled the consignment from Stanford and gave it to Chequered Flag.

I was going to go take a look at it this week.

Want me to take some "non-ebay" pic's for you?

The price is ok. The exhaust looks non stock though.

Nice that is has the CA BAR sticker on the door jamb. Mine does not, and I'm pulling in all sorts of favors now to get mine "certified".

I am thinking about pulling the trigger on this one.

I have been emailing back and forth and I think I am going to get it.

    Any thoughts?
