The glass enclosed garage looks awesome!

There was a house in another thread that was posted a while ago. It is owned by an FChat user, and it was this massive log cabin style home, right on the water. That was the most beautiful house I have ever seen. I remember the owner saying it was featured in a couple magazines. Tried to find the pictures, but couldnt locate them....anyone have them? or a link?

This is a question specifically for Scott (spook64)... In your opinion, what are the two or three most architecturally significant homes in the Dallas area?

Lemme guess - either Michael Dell or one of the other Dell execs?

    Very cool house.

I think that's a really cool house. I like the telescope/obeservatory thing the owner has, too, on the left of the pics. Since the house appears to be out in nowhere, the stars must be very easy to see. I would probably have something like that put in my house if I lived on a lot of land.

There are some nice homes in Orlando/Windermere, but none really on large parcels of land, which I kind of prefer. I do like how most of the nice ones are all lake front and together in the same neighborhood. One of them is English style and has a 20 car garage. It's split in 2 levels with 10 fitting in each, but door to each is a double-wide.

The owner is a UT grad and he has telescope parties at his house for the UT observatory program or whatever that class is.

There are several homes in Austin with observatories like that. They are all out in the Hill Country.

Speaking of observatories... Here is another Austin home.

This house is crazy... it has been under construction for about 5 years now and it's still not finished. I don't know about other places, but most homes in Austin don't require a crane that large.
It's a castle for one man, but it looks more like a village.
If I told you about some of the features of the house, you wouldn't even believe me.

The owner is a very well known video game developer and CEO.

^That house is amazing!!!! When I saw that crane, I was thinking some high rise condo was being built. It does look like a village like you said, but I really like that design, especially on a slope like that. Any specs?

Right now the owner says it's 25,000sq ft, but it looks larger than that to me. Maybe it just looks larger because there are several buildings that are connected together.
I think he said it's either 70 or 80 acres and the land does go all the way down to the lake.

Michael's house was 33,000sq ft before he added some other buildings. 10,000sq ft of Michael's house is under ground. ...and that is a CGT sitting outside his house.

    One more pic...

Here you go... It's no secret who's house it is. He is a great guy. He sponsors my old boxing gym.
It talks about his house in the article.

I actually really like Michael Dell's house, although, architecturally, it reminds me of my Middle School.

Of course I loved Middle School, so that isn't a bad thing...

    David,

Thanks for the PM...I would have missed your question.

Two choices, both recently built, both designed by famous architects, and at opposite ends of the design spectrum:

--Rachovsky house on Preston, just north of NW Highway, designed by modernist Richard Meier.

--Estate house on Preston Road in Highland Park, overlooking Turtle Creek and Lakeside drive, designed by English classicist Quinlan Terry.

Plenty of others out there, old and new, but those came to mind right away.

Neat, I'll have to do some searching and find pics of them, and keep my eyes open next time I'm in those areas.

Wasn't there someone on this board who was having a new house built somewhere in the Southwest, and was putting in a large kart track on it? I remember him mentioning that the police or the city paid him a visit; one of his neighbors called and said he was testing an F1 car on the track.

I can't remember who and this was before the Fchat servers crashed and a bunch of posts were lost, so searching didn't turn up anything. I think though it was an F40 owner.
