I posted back in April about the passing away of my pet Dalmatian. He was a great dog, and it took me a while to stop being so down over losing him. But while I have great and fond memories of him, I started to miss having a furry friend greeting me home. I have a big fenced in yard, and I have family who lives right next door and comes over during the day (or did to be with my last dog). Isn't she the cutest?

Weimaraner's are one of the best dogs to own. They're hyper-active at times, but doscile at other times and just a great breed of dog. My friend has one and when we lived together our sophomore year of college that dog became like my own.

    Your dog kicks ass!

Thanks guys - I am psyched to get her! Tsang, the other guys got it, she is a Weimaraner. She will get to around 60-70lbs or so, and from what I hear they love to dig! So it should be a fun couple of years with this pup :)

I think Weims are very cool dogs. I don't think I could own one, though... I tend to value my belongings! I've known two people who've owned them. Unfortunately, both families were dual-income situations, and Weims are known for getting separation anxiety. One chewed on some furniture, so it was decided to be kept in the basement while they were away (back to that in a minute). The other destroyed some expensive home theater equipment once while her owner made a quick trip to the grocery store.

Back to the basement dog... So - they decide to keep the dog "downstairs" while they're at work to minimize the amount of trouble he could get into. They come home at the end of day 1 to find that the Weimeraner had begun to *chew through* the foundation of the house! Now I'm not a civil engineer, but to me, if your dog is eating cinderblocks, it's got some SERIOUS anxiety issues. Last I heard, those things aren't exactly soft!!!

Great pup you got there, nonetheless!!!

Just keep an eye on her and teach her the word "NO". They do dig, but they like to chew on things more. My old roomates dog (which is also a female) chewed his gf's brand new leather coat to shreds, two comforters, a few pillows, a pillow on my couch. They also love rocks for some reason...I dunno why? So in other words give her the BIG-ASS chew toys that look like anal plugs (sounds funny but you'll know what I mean when you see them). It will take her forever to chew them to pieces, sometimes a year or more.

Just be stern and teach her discipline and show her who's boss. It will greatly minimize problems. But they will love you to death and love to lick and soak up attention.

Mike first thing you have to remember is you are at some time going to be yelling that name at the top of your lungs in the Dog Park or someplace inthe neighborhood. My Yellow's name was Caldwell when I adopted him but I couldn't picture that without doing a Niles Crane voice "Caldwell come here puppy I have the Perrier and Pate...." So he is the dog now known as Carlin. The Choc I adopted two weeks ago from the same shelter. Didn't have a name but they were calling her Kisses... She is now Lucy....

I should have called her Booty. that way I could walk along going HERE BOOTY BOOTY BOOTY and if anything else came.......

Congrats, on the new puppy.... I too have finally agreed to getting a puppy, It is an Alaskan Klee Kai, it is being flown in on Sunday from a breeder in Colorado. Here is a picture of the little guy. Dont know much about the breed other than it is a Miniature Husky (always loved the look of the Husky, just not the size, too big). Anyone have any more info, would be helpful....
