Does anyone know where I can find a used cheap Vespa type scooter? I found a place I can securely park my 308 so I could drive to work a few days a week but it is 2 miles from my store and I want to be able just to get there and back for a couple of months.
    Thanks

Check the scoot.net classifieds for private sales - it's the #1 source for the scooter community. I've got three scooters in my garage - a modified Vespa ET2, a classic Lambretta and a new Stella. I recommend a look at the Stella if you want something reliable - http://www.genuinescooters.com/ has a nationwide list of Stella dealers, some of whom may have used scoots of other makes as well.

Craigslist has a few for sale every so often. Im pretty sure they had an early 70s on there recently for a $1000? If you dont have to have a Vespa brand you can get better prices.

By far the best place in the tri-state area to get service and buy older Vespas is Scooters Originali (http://www.scootersoriginali.com).

They rarely update the website, but it gives you all of their info. Call them and speak to Mike or Ian. PM me if you want more info.

is it in manhattan..curious...always looking for the holy grail parking spot...I tell you what to do with the vespa inthe city...do what the messenger delivery guys do...they have the lic plates on a rope that they hang over the seat when they are driving it weaving in and out of city traffic...THEN they just park the damn vespa anywaher they want.. usually on the sidewalk in fornt of their delivery address and while they run inside to make the drop they take off the lic plate and drape around tehir neck and run inside...the cops can't ticket the damn thing sicne theri is no vehicle ID!

I wonder if you could get away with that license plate trick with cars? :)

    Sorry,

This is in upper westchester, as a matter of fact my office is about 2-3 miles from the Classic Car Garage, and I was thinking of leaving it there during the day, but I need a way to get back and forth.

I bought the big Vespa for my wife -200cc, and frankly, while it's fine to scoot around on the back roads- i use it to travel to the two towns in close proximity to our house for coffee and cigs on what amount to residential-type roads- i wouldn't really recommend it for any roads with speeds of 55 mph. There are some big ugly hondas that are scooterlike, but are more substantial, and probably far better if you really have to mix with traffic.

Maybe I could borrow that Ducati for a couple of months. That should do the trick!
