Yesterday was the first hot day this year in which I drove the F-car; in fact I drove it to work to show to the newer employees. Naturally the car was parked outside all day.

It was also the first hot day I drove the car since I put on a metal shift knob like the newer Ferraris come with. As I expected, the knob was very hot to the touch, almost too hot.

Do newer Ferraris come with, or does anyone market, a cloth cover to put over the shift knob in hot weather? I was thinking of a white cloth pouch that would slide over the knob and could be tightened with a drawstring.

If no one makes anything like this, it sounds like a natural for Paul Hill.......

I use my lucky sock. Prevents skin oil from tarnishing the aluminum and keeps the knob poilished while driving..............................................

I just whip the sock off for display whjen I get to my destination.

I used to have a polished Momo knob on my RX-7 so I had the same problem too. I found a few manufactured covers, but it's been years since I even looked at them.

I did find this online though and it does look rather nice. Plus it's leather so it goes well with an F-car interior: (at the bottom of the page)

I have that w/ my Voodoo knob in the Miata & the Competizione Momo in the 240Z (deep south). Just exchange it for leather Momo in summer. Momo has so much to choose from in tasteful knobs I hate it. Change it like you change shoes. Hell, I change wheels like I change shoes.

Finally, a viable argument for the F-1 transmission – no hot balls in your hands.

Well I always keep my "If it has Tits or Tires it'll cause you trouble" beer coozie in the car, it even keeps my shift knob insulated!

Hey...how about a cooling system for your shifter ball...ya know...coolant in, coolant out, a pump, a condenser, small rad hung out drivers side window, a few flex lines duck-taped to the shifter. shurley a guy in the aircraft bus otta be able to figure that one out. After all, all ferrari drivers know about hot balls. Bettcha you could sell a bunch of them....Be sortta of a marketing delemma...have to watch the wording. Wouldnt want people to get the wrong idea. 'For cooler balls try our ...' Ya get the idea.

It gets so damn hot here, your shifter doesn't have to be metal, and it will still brand your hand. I've used a Crown Royal bag in the past, and currently use the little matching bag my sunsheild came in.

In the Miata world aluminum Voodoo knobs were/are quite popular. A few years ago someone had their grandmother knit some covers for them and sent them out to a few people. I've got one somewhere with my Miata stuff.
