Back in 1976 my father bought a Real Daytona Spider he sold it 5-6 years later. It was anthracite (dark silver) with red (burgandy)? interior. I know it was painted blk/tan after we sold it. Thats all I know. Was there any factory Dark silver/ red (burgandy) Daytona Spiders. I would love to know that serial # and or where that car is today.
I will try to scan some pictures (if I can find them) I'll go look.
    Help me!

Armen, you don't know anything else about the car...? US or Euro spec...? Do you have any paperwork on the car...? Even though there's only 121 in existence (+ the prototype), it still might be hard tracking it down... Do you remember the dealership from which it was purchased...? To whom it was sold when he got rid of it...?

I really haven't asked too many of those questions. I know it is a U.S. car. I think it was a '72 & my father bought it when we lived in N.Y. I think from a N.Y. dealer??

on Barchetta.cc, I'm looking @ 16455. My picture is from 1977ish. The Florida plates were only for tax reasons. It was in New York then when we moved to CA. eventually we sold it. The pic. I'm looking @ of 16455 seems more recent??? I could understand the owner wanting to bring the car back to its origanal color???? But the knockoffs are not the 3 star. I don't think he would change them over to the bolt pattern??? Also the color is darker than mine was and the interior looks RED mine was more burgandy. I'll scan another picture so we could see the interior. Tell me if it IS a real spider. I get those switches on the dash mixed up is it 3 or 4????
    Pic. 1 is my car
    Pic. 2 is 16455
    Pic. 3 is 16455

Interesting thing is that those Florida plates expire in 1975. Could those plates have been left over from the previous owner?

O.K. some more scoop. My father bought the car from a used car dealership in Nyack, New York or is it New Jersey. We sold the car to George Hamilton in 1978-79ish. it was painted Blk/Tan. George sold it to Steve Haratounian? Supposably the car got in a accident w/ heavy damage.
    Does that help?

Just took a look in my old stack of Autoweeks from 1976. In the 3/20/76 issue (and following issues) the ad from "The Original Vintage Car Store, Inc" of Nyack, NY, lists the following:

"1972 Ferrari 365 Daytona Spyder. A superbly preserved and highly desirable convertible coupe (?) finished in Charcoal Gray with Maroon Hide interior. Fully equipped including air conditioning, Borani (sic) chrome wire wheels, 20,000 miles. All tools and manuals intact."

    No serial numbers listed.

Armen, you're right; the last Daytona Spyder is 17073 - which was recently for sale for $750,000...! (which is pretty ironic, as i was JUST talking to someone about 12851, which is the FIRST Daytona Spyder)...

Armen, REAL US spec Daytona Spyders have four levers and three toggle switches under the four levers... REAL Euro spec Spyders have four levers and TWO toggle switches under them... Gerald knows SO MANY ways to tell a real Spyder from a cut conversion, but unfortunately, i do not... However, judging by the rectangular lights, i would say that car in the picture you posted (rear angle) is a US spec car and, coupled with the three toggle switches, i would say it's real... (i'm not an expert, though, i just stayed at an Inn Town Suites last night...:D)

Wayne, i can look up that serial number in a little while; still want me to...? Now that Armen has dropped some names, i think that will be a significant help in locating the serial and location of the car, today...

    Carb,
How many 72 spyders were made? Maybe you can work backwards from that? How many other dark silver cars?

Boudewijn, this list is out of date.

There were only 122 Daytona Spyders manufactured, the one prototype and 121 production cars.

This has been confirmed by the factory, and the identity of all 122 cars is known.

Two numbers on the list you posted are NOT Daytona Spyders.

S/N 14391 is a 365 GTB/4 Berlinetta delivered new to AutoBecker in Germany.

    S/N 15555 is a 365 GTC/4 delivered new to SAVAF in Switzerland.

The Daytona Spyder in question is probably S/N 15297.

There were only two Daytona Spyders originally painted grigio ferro 106-E-8 with rosso VM 3171 interiors, S/N 15297 and S/N 16455. Both were USA specification cars imported originally by Modern Classic Motors, Reno, NV.

I have no record of S/N 16455 ever being black with tan.

S/N 15297 was black with tan at one time.

Unfortunately I do not have enough early history of S/N 15297 to conclusively indicate it is the car in question.
