Why not select a more traditional name and then petition Ferrari to have the cars re-badged? Let's say.....328 2+2. Has a nice ring, doesn't it ? Any other suggestions?
If you really wanted to follow traditional naming: 328 GTC or GTC/4 328 GTL (Lusso) But, it's fine the way it is. best, rt Mondial 3.2M
Don't change the image until I manage to accumulate one of each of them. I don't want to pay too much.
Each & every time I am out in my Mondial t I have someone ask "what kind of Ferrari is that?" When I say "Its a Mondial t" most say: "A Mondial? No way. I thought Mondial's were... "Different." - Or - "I thought Mondial's all had black lower body paint." - Or - "I cant beleive this is a Mondial." - Or - "Damn, its crazy beautiful!" Seems to me like I am doing everything I can just by driving this sexy beast. You look @ this photo & tell me that this car needs any more image enhancement anyway!
In the old Ferrari parlance, the '/4' stood for 4 cams, and the C suffix actually meant 'coupe' ( which were more street oriented and could have rudimentary backseats like a 365 GTC/4, but less than the full size 365 GT/4 2+2) as opposed to 'berlinetta' ('B') which were more 'sporting' and smaller. So putting it all together, Mondial Coupes: 308 GTC/4 308 GTC/4 QV 328 GTC/4 348 GTC/4 Cabriolets (generally a convertible coupe as opposed to Spiders, generally a convertible berlinetta), with a couple of exceptions were called 'Cabriolets' So, putting it all together, Mondial Convertibles: 308 GTC/4 QV Cabriolet 328 GTC/4 Cabriolet 348 GTC/4 Cabriolet I think this works, as the Mondial Coupe is to the 308 Berlinetta as the 365 GTC/4 Coupe is to the 365 GTB Daytona Berlinetta. Just my 2 Euros. best, rt
Mondial : a name used to commemorate back-to-back Formula One World Championships in 1952 and 1953, then re-introduced in 1980 in honor of a glorious 1-2 finish in the 1979 World Championship. Well, we certainly need to improve THAT image!
LOL. I'm glad we're all having a good time with this. I hope everyone realizes that this thread was begun....tongue-in-cheek. Actually, I think the Mondial is one of the nicest looking Ferraris and with the 2 extra seats....almost practical.
Yes, all in fun - as on my first post, it's fine the way it is. Since they are naming cars after people now (Enzo, 612 Scaglietti) I may rename the Mondial after Carlo Chiti, one of Ferrari's greatest engineers - it's brilliant, built for larger people, and quits when my wife comes around..... Little Ferrari historical humor to start the day... best rt
Then, shouldn't the F430 be named the Chiti? After all, it was his "sharknose" design that the new car's front end is appropriating.
And he was the big progenitor of mid engine V-8s at 3 different companies - and 3 of my favs! Ferrari (158, 248, 268P) ATS Alfa Romeo (Type 33) And for those who might not have appreciated the previous last line, Chiti, a very big guy, lead the famous walkout (quitting) of Ferraris top staff due in part it is said to maddening meddling by Ferrari's wife, Laura, coming to the factory and complaining... best rt Chiti Fan Club
Hey, then they could use one in the no-doubt-in-the-works remake of (wait for it) "Chiti Chiti Bang Bang"!!! Haw haw, I crack myself up.
