Okay, maybe your fingers starting typing a reply before your brain computed my post, but you need to go read it again.

    I'll wait as well.

Ok, now see the part were it says the NSX is the better PERFORMING car? Since when is performance all about speed? Where did I once reference that the NSX is faster and that's what defines performance.

Re-read your own comment next time, I never once said it was about speed. And if it was this board would be called "MclarenF1chat.com"

Man... all this dispute resulting from a comment from a Barrett-Jackson auctioneer? :)

My current Ferrari is a 348 challenge. My last car was a NSX coupe. To compare the two would be slightly skewed... We all know that Honda did some F1 spanking of the prancing horse in their day, and that Ayrton Senna was legendary and probably the best driver during his life... however, that's not the dispute here. I'm not going to provide hard evidence, but only a perspective based on my previous ownership.

The NSX, in my opinion, is a very well-made car. It can keep up with the best of the ferrari's for the most part, w/o the fuss of maintenance and reliability issues. Someone once told me that if you had to compare an NSX and a ferrari, it would be like saying that one is the wife, the other the mistress... how applicable is the comparison would be up to your discretion! LOL :)

The 348 (Challenge) is a well-designed, slightly overlooked exotic. With some bad press early on, it got off to a rocky start. However, having owned and experienced one, I can safely say that this car definitely rocks my world. It is raw and throaty... it possesses better handling characteristics than my nsx did, and allows me to explore more of my passions for driving. The rudimentary nature of the interior is a constant reminder to that the car is a pure race car and the sound of the challenge exhaust tells me there's definitely some soul. (Plus those of you that know my car may even argue it has a mind of its own!! ;))

I had a DC Sports exhaust on my NSX... it was a great sound, slightly quieter than others, but still nice at speeds... the car was very driveable, but does not have the same racing history or heritage that my ferrari carries...

Would I ever own another NSX? Yes, possibly. They are fun cars to drive around town. (oooh, and that HSC isn't too shabby either!)
If I had to choose between the two to fully enjoy the art of driving, which would it be? My 348 Challenge, without a doubt.

Btw, I've heard the tubi exhaust on the nsx with test pipes... it doesn't hold a candle to the 348 with the same set up, nor with the 355... but then again, few cars can actually sound as melodic as the 355 with tubi!! :) The NSX had great sounds with the taitec straight through setup or the RM Racing SS exhaust.

Good discussion... but there's no right or wrong answer here... at the end of the day, it's not really about racing history, heritage, or soul... it's all about personal preference.... and merely saying brand name buying is somewhat shallow... b/c for a japanese car, the NSX is also "brand name"... We all drive b/c we love it... and we will always pick cars that speak to us in that certain way... for me, the NSX did at one point in time... but the Ferrari remains timeless and will speak to me for years to come.

I hardly think comparing a 348 Challenge to a stock 91-94 NSX is a fair comparison. You would have to compare to a NSX-R.

Is a 348 challenge street legal?

Good point. Hardly a fair comparison...:) But like a said, "slightly skewed" ... I probably would have to look at the JDM NSX-R, but then I would rather compare it to a 355CH or 360CS.

The car is street legal b/c all 348 challenge cars started out originally as street cars, including the 32 1994 challenge cars converted by dealerships.

How can some of you guys bash the nsx for its racing heritage when Ayrton Senna tuned its chasis, probably the best F1 driver of all time. In addition I guess many forget about Hondas various succeses in F1, when Ferrari was down and out. The NSX was a better car than the 348 (Key competitor)in every aspect, the problem is that Honda kept it unchanged for 15 years.

    My feeling exactly.

You don't just slap a Tubi and a Comptech S/C kit on an NSX and then suddenly all its problems in the excitement department vanish. It's something more than that.

It doesn't stir the soul, it's just too antiseptic. It looks the part, it sounds the part, it's quick enough, but again as I've said in this post, the sum of its individual parts don't add up to something that would make you ever choose it for spirited jaunts over an F-car in the same garage.

I'll always keep mine to tool around town in, and I'll probably mod it up to 400HP or so to keep it from getting blown away by just about every AMG Benz, multiple M cars from BMW, any current Ferrari, a Z06, the new C6 vette, etc etc etc god the list is long, but at least I know it'll last forever.

But in six months a Challenge Stradale will join it in the stable, and then I suspect the NSX will be relegated to "movie-theater, grocery store, return video tape" duty and I won't be able to justify keeping it.

At that point, I will be glad to take it off your hands. What color is yours again?

The NSX is your everyday sports car. Its not really and exotic considering it comes from Japan. Its a nice sports car that can hold its ground. Maybe it cant keep up with the Italian crowd. I guess mine is 'ricered' but it doesnt have a 747 wing or a prison-anus pipe. It sounds more like a muscle car than anything. Its a good car for the money.

well i am new to this ferrari board... i ve owned 2 nsx, they are wonderful cars. no maintance issues, (besides the tires, sometimes clutch on and the bumpy ride due to square tires if you leave one parked too long) no valve guide issues or the cracked manifold.. you can park one in your garage for 4 months, hook up a battery buddy, start and drive... i love that about the nsx.
iam also sure that honda motor company has lots more research money than ferrari does and can afford to sell the nsx at a capital loss just for the marketing reasons..... so does honda make a better car than ferrari? that depends on what "better" is.. this morning i took my f355 to the shop for its service. it will cost me between 7-10k the car runs like hell if i leave it parked for more than a week, it runs like hell if its too cold, the buttons and plastic trim all seems to be "melting" and sticky, the radio sounds like hell, some of the fit and finish is awful, the parts on the interior feel and look like ford produced it for their escort (with a nice coating of rubber cement)
HOWEVER, i love the way this car sounds, drives, looks, those 3 things more than make up for the quality issues and the snooty people at the ferrari dealer. so is the ferrari better or the nsx better? well i think they each has their own market. nsx for the practical people ferrari for the passionate folks. since i have both i guess i am inbetween!

    Steve,

You might try looking at production numbers for the Lambo and the Ferrari. I think you will be surprised to see that they are higher than those of the NSX. Recently I discussed this with a Diablo owner who pointed it out to me. He was a bit peaved that there were more Diablos floating around than NSXes.

It's not a racist term and I've never met a single asian perosn who is offended by it. It's jsut refering to how its a Asian car, (rice is associated with Asia.) I have met alot of Asians being that my girlfriend is Asian, and being in the Marines, and none have ever said anyhting if I mention a "ricer." Saying its a racist term is like saying someones a racist for calling a Cherokee or the such a Indian. It has just become a word people use, but I by no means would consider it racist, and if I ever heard someone say something racist about anyone, or anything, espicially my girlfriend or her family there would be trouble. Thats just my opinion though.

Sorry if I came off strong I just disagreed with what was said, and that's what this place is for to let all people give there side of stories.

Racism is in the eye of the beholder...A girl that I work with is Vietnamese and she calls all asians "chinks" and says that they all look alike...It is disturbing at first to see a hot little lady speaking like that but if no one gets offended who am I to say something?
