SN ZFFX63X000153156 is a 3 owner car with approx. 12k miles that was last competitively raced in 2015 with CCR. Over the last few years and since extensive work from Arnie Poundstone of Speedbourne Racing Services (Race support team for Ferrari of Atlanta) it has only seen a handful of DE events. Arnie rebuilt the engine, installed new wheel bearings, brake rotors, and pads on all corners, rebuilt the alternator, and installed new control arm bushings, new fuel cells, oil, power steering and fuel lines. The car has a Solo2 lap timer, MyLaps transponder and camera, and a cool suit system. Extras included a set of wheels and spare set of front and rear coilovers. To discuss the car further feel free to call Glenn Butler at 704-962-9683

Do these have VINs? Can they be converted to street use and used for the track?

Ok, Rob. Arguably it could be made street legal by removing and layering most of what makes it a challenge car in the first place. Interestingly even with all of the well heeled Fchat members on here, how many have jumped through those hoops and spent the conversion dollars to make it happen? Making one of these “legal” is an interesting theoretical process, but in application it just isn’t happening.

I met Glen this week at the FCA event we did at VIR. He is a super great guy to talk to and super helpful. The car itself is stunning and really in excellent shape. They have worked hard to keep this stallion in top order.

If this was 12 months from now, I would be all over this. I'll need to sell my track car first, but this is JUST what my wife and I want. We debated about a 360 or the 430 Challenge and this is just what we would want. GLWS, this is a great car sold by great people.

Really enjoyed talking with you and Mike at your trailers. I have a handful of custom tools to send to him for the Testarossa, I forgot to get his email address.

I think for awhile there was misinformation out there about no VIN and not ever streetable, but we just had a government NHTSA senior official start posting. It might not be all that hard especially in the states when these start hitting 25 years like the 355 C and no inspection is required.

    https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/posts/147839541/

I think there might be a good business here for someone, certainly less headache than doing manual swaps. Someone could do the export import through Canada, get passed, and obtain title for $50k fee. I think many would pay this or more for a street legal Challenge and you would get most of the value back at resale too.

I think we need more evidence than a guy with two posts representing himself as a senior NHTSA official posting statements without signing his name to it. Like I said, there’s plenty of people on here with resources and challenge cars. One would think if there were a clear cut solution some of us would have already done it, particularly those looking to profit from it by “adding value” with a rarity. It’ll be interesting to see if anything comes of the concept...

I think there are many reasons it hasn't been done that much yet, but times are changing...
    • people wrongly thought no valid VIN, the VIN is 100% valid though.
    • Challenge car prices were higher, but now anything past the 355 can be had pretty cheap.
    • just in the last couple years all the Challenge cars have become very expensive to run on the track. Stuff like the hub axles $10k a set and they go out all the time. We have a local track that use to be a little bumpy, I would go through a set of hub axles in just one weekend there. these are cool cars and people want to run them, just local on the streets you don't have all the expensive tracking costs.
    • there wasn't a good use for them on the street until a few years ago, it isn't a car to drive around town for fun, not a car to even do rallies, but perfect to drive 10 miles to the local Cars & Coffee type meet and get more attention than the Senna or SVJ there.
    • we'll wait to see, but now appears a potential easy road to title export-import Canada.
I bet there is a solid trend the next 5-10 years more Challenge cars on the street.

Just one data point. I remember the 2004 Ferrari French Quarter Classic where we had a police escort from the Quarter to the track (only in NOLA). I was driving a Challenge Stradale and was highsiding on those old crowned roads the whole way. I ended up having to put my tires on the high point of the ruts to stop scraping. Mandy was driving her 360 Challenge. By the time, she got to the track, she was mega pissed. She said she would never ever do that again. (Frankly, Mandy tended to get pissed rather easily, but I digress.) The fact is these cars are race cars. They are not meant to be driven on the streets. Moreover, race cars by definition are stupid money cars. IMNSHO, converting a race car into a street car is a bad idea.

You'd be miles and miles ahead by buying a Stradale or Scuderia, maybe doing some mods.

Like I said above I wouldn't drive one for a rally or around town much. Only to limp over to the local C&C.

    Not familiar with that story.

I always liked David Moore. I wish I still had the Maser Spyder I brought from him.

I might not have name right, but you will remember her. Divorce or widow, then she just piled a bunch of money into Ferraris and a 3-car trailer paying David to go with her and all her work. She ran out of money in just a couple years.

    Yeah, that rings a bell.

Mandy was a thin, dark haired lady who raced a 360 Challenge that supposedly was the only 360 CH that was never wrecked. At the time, I believe she was recently divorced. I always got along with her, but she didn't suffer fools. I believe she is in my LinkedIn feed.

We took the car out for a few laps at VIR to shake things down - and all went well. So anyone in the market for a Challenge car can choose between this one or the 458 Challenge that I just advertised.
