Dieter Rencken reporting that former Ferrari North America head and Ferrari F1 team manager, Marco Mattiacci is joining the Aston Martin F1 team in some capacity. Not surprising given Marco probably knew Stroll very well during his FNA days.

    I wish him well.

Mattiacci probably didn´t know much about F1, but he was very good at selling cars, and that´s what Aston Martin desperately needs now, more than winning races.

The Incredible Hulk has now been promoted to official test and development driver for Aston Martin.

A good move by AM for a variety of reasons including having a read-to-run replacement should Vettel call it quits mid season.

I don't think that's gonna happen. After all he is Lance's tutor and AM's ambassador. But I can imagine a scenario where he quits on his own.

The structure of the contract is the key. I do not see Stroll Sr wishing for another back of the pack year with Seb as Ferrari last year. Thats not beneficial to the brand. I wonder what is contained reference to 'performance' for Seb in this matter.

There is that. Constructor points and TV/media coverage translate into $ and Seb at the backend doesn't provide that. Let's see what he does at Imola. I can't believe Bahrain was really representative of his current form. He's gotta be better than that.

He picked a car with the least stable platform currently outside of Haas or Williams. Given no other team wanted him in reality, he should have departed the series.

He certainly isn't leaving things on a high.

I'm still thinking the ambassadorship is a nice role. MS did it for Ferrari. Maybe there will be an Aston Martin Vettel edition? Comes with random slides and spins when pushing a corner. :D

To be fair the Haas is an absolute sh*tbox this year.

Just to be clear: it was an absolute sh*tbox last year. Now it’s a year-old sh*tbox; so outdated to boot.

Good practice for the young drivers and no pressure for results. They just need to stay out of the way and not affect the running of the races, like Mazepin did at Bahrain.

We didn’t see much of Mattiacci but I recall being impressed by a couple of moves he did make—or that were attributed to him—and he seemed a better manager than Arrivabene. Don’t understand what happened that they dumped him so quickly.

    Fully agree.
Seemed a good manager to me, he was a Montezemolo man and I guess it was a big problem for Marchionne.
Arrivabene was a Marlboro guy , nothing more.

That is a KEY message Haas must ensure has been passed to him. Haas has no business altering the results of races by racer they employ stupidity. Mazepin has shown clearly a lack of clarity and control. He should still be in Jr Formula.

Gene Haas has run out of funds for his team, so had to sack his 2 experienced drivers, and take 2 rookie pay drivers.
Also, he had to stop any development of the 2020/21car to save money for the "new rules" 2022 car.
Put the 2 together, and it's not a good recipe for this season; Haas will be the tail ender this year.
