That was a bizarre article. You could tell it was written during a slow time for F1.

I'm not sure what was his point? We're Ferrari F1 fans. They haven't won since 2007, and that stinks. Reveling in the pain? Certainly we would MUCH rather be winning every year. Is it better if we simply root for the team that is winning every year rather than faithfully following our team and hoping every year?

    Bizarre piece.

Suggests Kravitz does not support a football team either ?

What Ferrari fans desire is a front running car.

What Kravitz meant, I think, is how long can you root for a team that keeps letting you down ?

    That's what I understood anyway.

I'm sure there were Williams fans too, at some point, when they were winning everything, like in the 90s.

But how many are left now that Williams is at the bottom of the ranking?

    Ferrari hasn't won a title since 2007 ...

Those who do not understand this passion for Ferrari are in ignorance of what makes us vibrate. Too bad for them.

Oh, yeah, Ted Kravitz has our number.

I wake up in the morning to immediately sprinkle sand into my eyes, before climbing out of bed to walk barefoot across a bedroom floor strewn with tactical caltrops. My bloodied feet slip on the tiled bathroom floor as I make my way to the toilet. I often unintentionally and painfully demonstrate the splits, crashing genitals first onto the rim of the toilet. I'd shave with a straight razor, but holding my face to an overturned lawnmower is more my style. My coffee is drank while still boiling. My cereal is swallowed dry without chewing. Yes, we revel in pain... that's why we love Ferrari. o_O

    What a stupid article.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Kind of not the definition of a 'fan', I think.

I think we stay as fans in wait for that one magical season that will make the memory of all of those prior seasons just disappear!

I've been a Ferrari Fan since 1972/73 ish... young kid. I mostly remember them NOT doing well. After Lauda and Sheckter years...in the 80's after so many close calls - 82 and 83 ( both constructors championship years )... thinking that 1985 was the year... started off great ... petered out. when they brought Barnard on from McLaren ... that was going to be the ticket... nothing... false hope in 90.... then politics after the old man died got in the way.. they fired one of greatest drivers of all time because he spoke the truth... and then finally Schumacher.... it was good while it lasted... but all those Schumi years Every race I expected it to not happen.... so for me its more shocking when they win, vs. lose.

my opinion on Mr. Kravitz is not good. of all the announcers on that team... he's by far the rudest and most self absorbed... so I don't book a lot of what he says.

It's not sad for me; I'm being pragmatic here.
Anything or anyone you put your trust in will disappoint you one way or the other at some point.
Then, it's time to move on ...

Supporting a sporting team is not logical or pragmatic.

Most here are logical and pragmatic people in our everyday lives.
We seek progressive improvement to better things for ourselves and our families.
We seek to be in control and to manage risk.

Passion for our team, the highs and lows, is in a way, a holiday from all that.
It brings comradeship with our fellows across the world.

Ferrari is the only motorsport team that seems able to do this.

A fair weather fan is not a true fan. That goes for drivers and teams.

It's easy to support the winning team/driver and abandon them the moment the tide has turned. I can't get my head round those types of people.

Our love for Ferrari is also the adherence to the story of an exceptional man who has translated into reality what we dreamed in the depths of our dreams as children :

There are football teams that never have won anything, never ever, and still have fans. Also, football fans support their national teams at the World Championship, despite just a few have won it. In sports you´re a fan of something because you like it, because it´s the team of your town, whatever, not because they´re winning. Sport is something superficial enough to think like that, it´s a luxury many can´t afford in "real life".

In motorsports, Ferrari has many unique things that make them attractive for fans, even if they never had won anything. Having said that, the "fatalist" view of Ferrari is somewhat baseless: that team has won a lot, more than McLaren, Williams or any other historic team. And it´s not because they´ve been running for longer, if you take the years that Ferrari and McLaren have run together, Ferrari has more wins. Yeah, they pass through many bad streaks, but that´s because they SURVIVE those bad streaks. Lotus or Brabham didn´t.
