SF21 will follow the RedBull philosophy and use a thinner nose(bout freakin time).

Really doubts they have enough tokens to change nose design.
They will use tokens mainly to modify the rear end of the car.

+1 on bout freakin time! If true.

That boxy nose is just not appropriate for an F1.

To @jpalmito point, they can only do this without using tokens if (hopefully) the homologated 2020 crash structure (under the aero skin) is narrow so they can shrink wrap a tighter skin around it as we ro changes are permitted.

With Simone Resta back at Ferrari after his stint at Alfa (before again moving to Haas) this makes sense as Alfa had a similar arrangement as RBR with the forward facing openings in the nose, even though the Alfa nose is not as narrow as the RBR’s.

I had read on one of those fringe Italian F1 sites that he didn’t pursue the narrow nose this year as it didn’t give any improvement. Hard to believe since the rest of the field is doing it.

In any case, I would really like to believe there will be a different nose on SF21, even if only for aesthetic reasons :D

Where did you get the info? Thanks.

I don’t think we’ll see a narrow nose on the sf21 because that would implies a global aerodynamic study. Too many changes compared to what is allowed.

A narrower nose is aerodynamically efficient and has a lower drag coefficient. Which is why RedBull, Mclaren and Renault have followed it. Look at the noses of Mercedes through the years.

According to the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, the team will be inspired by the Red Bull Racing car.

The 2020 season has been the worst season for Ferrari in years. Team boss Binotto will have to work a miracle to succeed in 2021.

According to editor Paolo Filisetti, the regulations for next season will be a challenge. "The internal part of the suspension, chassis and cooling are parts that should be similar to the 2020 design and should be transferred to the new car," he says in La Gazzetta Dello Sport.

    Looking at the neighbours
Ferrari will therefore have to take steps in the field of aerodynamics in particular, for which, according to the newspaper, the team will use the Red Bull Racing philosophy. "In terms of change in aerodynamics, we are seeing a thinner front end on the SF21. In terms of cooling, the bodywork will be thinner. This accentuated curvature tells Ferrari will follow the Red Bull philosophy".

In addition to the changes in aerodynamics, Ferrari will also have to work on the diffuser. According to the regulations, the diffuser has to be five centimetres higher. Falsetti claims that that problem alone is largely solved. "Ferrari plans to use a solution similar to the one at the end of 2020, with an emphasis on the centre of the diffuser". During the winter test, we will find out if the changes have affected the position of Ferrari.

    https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/154422/williams-floor-rules-could-help-team-in-2021

Interesting comments here from Williams about the 2021 floor cut-out rules, especially the bolded part. Ridiculous level of sensitivity and effort around aero:

"It is a major change to the floor, particularly that area close to the rear tyre," he said.

"It is an area where we suspect we're not class leader, let's say, so hopefully for us it's less of a hit than some of those other teams.

"I think it is traditionally a very difficult area to understand, particularly how the floor will react to the tyre as it deforms and ages and wears.

"So hopefully it will have quite a big effect for the teams at the sharp end and perhaps less so for us.

"That's what we're hoping and hopefully there's some early indications from the running we did on Friday [in Abu Dhabi] that that might be the case."

Will be interesting to see if this mod will affect the high-rake cars or the low-rake cars more. I would expect the high-rake cars will be more affected but the low-rake Mercs (silver and pink or green) will have more floor area removed (area they rely on for downforce = P x A) because the leading edge of the taper is measured from the front axle.

Renault, sorry Alpine, trying to re-create the magic of the Briatore/Alonso association with another Italian manager who coincidentally shares the first three letters of his name with Briatore, namely ex-Yamaha and Suzuki MotoGP championship winner Brivio who used to run those teams out of Italy.

    https://www.autosport.com/f1/feature/10929/why-alpine-latest-signing-could-be-its-best-hope-of-f1-glory

So another UK-based team with non-UK top management after Merc (Austrian), McLaren (American/German), Aston Martin (Canadian/American). Only RBR, though Austrian-owned, managed by Horner (albeit with Marko looking over his shoulder) and Williams (which nevertheless is majority American ownership I believe) remain.

Kimi and Alonso will be the only drivers on the grid for 2021 to have raced in the V10, V8, and V6 turbo hybrid era's.
