Hammy to be knighted by the Queen (according to reports). https://www.espn.com/f1/story/_/id/30371159/hamilton-set-knighthood-queen-elizabeth-ii-reports?linkId=105194433&fbclid=IwAR0wGdwS8opfdNfdkQrP_NLT
One of the most deserving recipient, IMO. I am not really a fan of the Honours List, but Lewis Hamilton is our most successful driver ever, so I will make an exception in his case.
Can't imagine it would feed his ego at all eh? Don't get me wrong. He's IMMENSELY talented and clearly unbelievably successful. Kudos to him for being at the top of his field for so long. It's the off-track behavior that really is lacking. Grats to him i spose.
Its fair enough. He doesn’t drive for the team I support, but he’s won the titles. I don’t need to think he is a great person to acknowledge his achievements, nor does the Queen. I don’t need to be a BLM activist to recognise he had struggles that other top flight drivers have not had. He is Without doubt a ****ing good racing driver. So yeah, arise Sir Lewis.
I don't know, and I'm mad as heck that he didn't! Winning world championships on two different types of vehicles is a unique achievement unlikely ever to be equaled.
Good for Lewis, it was well overdue. I was honoured to interview John Surtees by phone and later met him at Goodwood, a very special, smart man. I do think Marc Marquez could be F1 wdc if he switched soon and got the right car. In terms of talent and speed he eats Verstappen and Charles for breakfast.
I don't want to be rude but this comparison has no sense. There is nothing to say that he would be able to transfer his abilities from a two-wheeler to a car and its four wheels. And this is a Marquez fan talking to you.
On the one hand his achievements warrant some kind of sporting recognition for being the most successful F! racing driver, on the other hand he is a tax exile and doesnt support the country through paying taxes here. Perhaps if he supported whichever country he decided to live in through paying his fair wack, that money would go to those he his so vocal about. Bit like a famous rock star who once said on stage, pay your taxes and help the poor and then everyone discovered he moved all his money into a tax haven!!!! Lots of words in the dictionary to describe that one. Tony
Imagine if Lewis had achieved his results in a British team such as Williams. That would have been very special. Sir Stirling Moss was the ultimate patriot and his legend lives on
This thread is healthier without William [emoji23] Good for Lewis honestly. We should be happy for one another. I genuinely maintain that the man rather live in LA and Monaco than England Can’t blame it for liking the weather better of course Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
While I agree that Lewis' successes are worthy of a knighthood I also think that it is an honor that should be reserved for later in life or at the very least once his professional racing career is over. The honor is best bestowed once the receiver is on to a different stage of their life.
Knighthood was originally bestowed almost immediately after providing a most excellent service to the king--like in the aftermath of a battle. Why are you delaying it until old age ?
Joining Saville ,Rolf Harris, Mugabe and a whole host of undesirables honoured ...its been devalued im afraid https://news.sky.com/story/disgraced-public-figures-who-have-been-stripped-of-their-honours-12075119

A sportsman should know how to stay in his place. If he continues to proclaim his desire to influence the world, he will definitively cover himself with ridicule.
The great Valentino Rossi tried the switch from 2 wheels to 4, driving rally cars and testing for Ferrari . What a PR coup for SF that would have been. However, he never made the switch which suggests it isn’t easy. As there is zero chance of an F1 driver going the other way I suspect Grande John’s entry in the record book maybe secure!
Disagree Mon cher, he did much better in his single F1 test than Vale in his multiple ones. In 56 years, 46 of watching Motorsport no one has impressed me more, that is saying something, up there above Bellof, Senna, Montoya, and yes the other more famous top ones. For now I just hope his arm and confidence come back intact.
I think it's because he won in Italian machinery too close to the end of WW2 for comfort. It's a stupid reason, but it's what I think happened.
As I said before mon cher I am a huge Marquez fan, I didn’t know his formula one test was so impressive. Do you have some sources about it ? Unfortunately, his injury could lead him to focus his career on the automobile.
Well that test in Austria was hugely impressive and in my view significantly more so than the various ones Valentino did.
