what an Interesting comment! While I highly doubt Ferrari is pegging production numbers to population growth, it’s worth an exploration I suppose. Ferrari built 1315 F40s. Ferrari plans to build 3500 Pistas but could go higher based on demand. Let’s say 3500 is the number. That’s a growth of 266% in production. Population in 1988 was 5.1B and today is 7.9B. 51% more.

Now the rise in Asia has lead to a dramatic decrease in poverty, as in 1988 an estimated 2b ppl lived in extreme poverty compared to less than 500m today. So maybe you’re onto something. Or this quarantine is getting to me.

I think it’s a stretch to compare the Pista to the F40

I agree. For lots of reasons, but the main one perhaps being that the F40 was supposed to be the top performing Ferrari, the hypercar of its time, the niche that the LaFerrari occupies today, not a special version/adaptation/reinvention of an already existing, mainstream car.

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

Under the current market conditions I doubt they will produce more Pistas. The Plant partially opens this week and they are backlogged on F8 allocations. The pandemic has impacted Asia and Europe considerably. There are quite a few Pistas sitting out there for sale and in some cases being turned over to dealers to sell. Good time to buy.

Agree. A Pista is a damn site better looking and drives infinitely better. The rest of the speculation can wait for another 23 years.

You’re looney if you think history will remember a Pista as fondly (or valuably) as the F40. But that’s a digression not worth diving into.

Wow the Pista is really breathtaking beautiful, can't remember last time I saw something this brutal / aggressive from Ferrari as they prove historically to be more fluid in their lines compared to Lambo as en example which makes the F-cars look less aggressive. But the Pista is an exception, I'm just drooling over the Pistas rolling here in Stockholm.

Great minds think alike. My collection is eclectic with a smattering of different brands and genres. If you’re looking for a Vette, check out the C6 ZR1. The styling is quintessential Corvette and is a legitimate 200 mph car with a full carbon hood and roof, dry sump engine with titanium connecting rods, manual transmission and brakes lifted right from the Enzo. Full disclosure: I dislike the C8 styling.

You’ll love the Demon. The only people who have ever laughed at mine are passengers when I’m under full throttle. It’s hilarious.... in the best possible way.

I think you're gonna need to wait another 23 years to find that one out Jo Sta7.

Funny listening to the talk the F40 owners saying it's the better car over the Pista. If F40 was the better car as some here make out then why are they all parked up as showpieces? The truth is they are just a collectable and not much more, and if they weren't you'd see them out and about trying to mix it up amongst today's exotics or at track days and the likes. But instead the owners are too scared to take them out of cotton wool in fear of putting on kilometres on them (money and value again taking charge over the days activities).

And insofar as which is the best looking? I'd place a bet if you put theses two together in a crowd and took an informal vote the Pista would win hands down. Same if the same crowd was allowed to drive them both around a circuit or on a city road - Pista would win hands down.

The F40 sits on a collectable level Gh. Nothing wrong with that but it is what it is.

I have owned 2 F40s and currently have 2 pistas. There is no car more iconic than the F40 and it looks fantastic. No car will attract more smiles on the road or in your garage. That being said it is a great example of why you should not meet your heros, when the F40 is not on boost it’s about as powerful as a Fiat 500, it has atrocious turbo lag and brakes so bad that fast driving where braking is required is almost impossible. However if you cruise around in it and floor it in a straight line when the turbo lag is charming and you can use engine braking to slow down, you will have a perfectly enjoyable time. The pista however, is a razor sharp instrument that looks fantastic and is intoxicating to drive. The miles I did today in the pista spider where laugh out loud fun. I’d love to have another F40 back in my garage (I’d get a euro sliding window car) but 9 times out of 10 I would stop at the F40, admire how fabulous it looks and then get in the pista. In terms of 23 years from now, who knows? The F40 and the pista will both be vintage V8s with twin turbos and the pista spider is rarer than the F40, so who knows what values will be. I suspect the F40 will always be worth more because of its super car status but I highly doubt that anyone who drove them back to back would say the F40 was a better drivers car as there is no contest.

Dont even need a pista to make that comparison- 488 does the job, and those are a dime a dozen.

I call em like I like I see em. I can have pretty much any car I want, the Pista checks a lot of boxes. Is it iconic? Maybe not but it's pretty strong and likely to be the last of its kind.
