Seriously in the market for an early carbureted 308GTB. Solid driver car with no body/rust/accident issues. Service and ownership history a must. Condition trumps originality. No games or fishing please, if you're sure you want to sell or know of a good GTB for sale, then send me condition, location, pics and firm price. The car is for me to keep, drive enjoy and tinker with, not to resell. Contact Ric at <landeira AT colorado DOT edu> and I will respond to all genuine messages. Thanks in advance for any leads you can provide. Rest assured that I have funds and that I am ready to make a purchase right away.

Solid driver will be $50-60k. Driver $40-50. Usual door rust, valves and synchro issues $35-45k. Having done the latter, I strongly recommend the former :)

Thanks derekw. I agree with you 100% and I am quite willing to pay good money for a good car. Would love to find one here among the faithful, although a straight shooting dealer that advertises on Fchat would also be a welcome possibility.

Your issue will be, not many are left, and not many are for sale.

Also be very aware that US cars fitted catalysts in '78 and flattened the cam lift, for emissions.

Were I looking now I would turn my sights to Europe, for two reasons.
They were allowed to run carbs without CATS until 80 or '81, even and a GTB from there would be a dry sump engine.

Also, the cars there were never considered a "cheap" car so they were maintained far better than the US cars, IMO.
Good luck, I have a rust free North American 1977 and these prices people toss out are low, bring $80K and we can talk about my car leaving the garage.

The arrows on early car values look like this: /\ /\ /\

The Ferraris you see exploding into flames at the fuel pump?

Well that's a carbed car with bad fuel lines, that reach a glowing hot catalytic converter, and game over.

    Don't be "that guy!!!"

Well, even if you two aren't putting yours out there for sale, at least you're keeping the thread alive. I have received one feeler that could possibly come to something, so we'll see. However, in order to give my search more exposure I'll probably put another WTB in the classifieds in the next day or two. I just wanted to give the 308-328 gang first notice.
Again, thanks to all who can help direct me to a worthwhile car that is really for sale currently.

Best of luck in your search. They are wonderful cars. Obviously i'm partial to the 77's...,but just about any 308 is a great car to own.

That is a real, honest, 30K miles example though, continuous history, except for some wanker in Texas, that took it to New Orleans on a Lost Weekend....

Yoric is looking for a solid driver, not excellent or concours. This is the Hagerty valuation. Very good cars would be #2.5 and around $80k.
    • #1 Concours $123,000
    • #2 Excellent$102,000
    • #3 Good$58,500

Of course, buyers and sellers have different opinions as to the-car-in--question's worth. So for a sale to actually materialize, they both--ideally--have to give a little, perhaps not equally, depending on who's more serious about completing the transaction. I've been on both sides of the equation having owned and sold a 308 and a 328 in the past so I understand how it works and what's expected, but I'd just as soon cut to the chase and not either play coy, be obstinate or walk away, because I do want to buy a car now, not two or three months from now. Regarding the Hagerty prices quoted above, I'd say they're maybe a little high, but not much. Again it depends on the individual car and how much each side wants the sale to get done. Keith Martin's SCM current Pocket Price Guide lumps all 1977-79 steel GTB's together and tags them at $59K noting a downward adjustment. I expect that a car fitting my criteria of a good, solid driver would be somewhere between $65K and $75K.

Great buyer attitude and I'm sure you'll find one soon :) Hagerty sells insurance so is always a little generous.

Listen again as I explain, ANY "GUIDE" that wants to pretend, or imply, that a soft cam '78 -'79 catalyzed US/Canada car is in any way in the same market as an early NON CAT example....

Has lost all credibility, in my mind. They have simply missed a MAJOR point.

    Shoppers walk, buyers drive...
    Good luck bro.....

A ‘76 or ‘77 is not going to be the same as a Cat’d ‘78-80 carb car. Unless you buy it from someone who doesn’t know the difference. My 30K mile ‘77 GTB would only walk for $90K cash...that’s what I tell everyone that asks me if they can buy my car.

OK I'm raising mine to that!!!

Hagerty has the high number at 115K IIRC....but there are non on that condition, IMO unless redone.

I don’t like the way how Hagerty priced the 308, they price it like they don’t know anything about the 308, they priced it too low, say about $20k too low. JMO.

A nice early carb 308 is a dream to drive and drop dead gorgeous. They should never be discounted as a desirable car. Time will tell of course. The gearing in the dry sumps is icing on the cake...more so than the dry sump itself.

Damn Vetrorosina sold for 165 last night at Amelia. We registered on line, and I was hoping folks were freaking over the market and the fake news, but nope. People with money will always have money. We can't make ourselves pay that although it was sold for 247 in Monterey in 2015 and in the 170s in 18 I believe. We were there in 15, and that's when I thought here's the new Dino. I still think it is the new Dino. And I have a hole for it as the 458s and Isseta are at the lake house. Bumper....I think Julie wants a 330 GTC. For some reason I like the Vetro. Image Unavailable, Please Login

Since we are talking about the 308 market, my friend Mario was talked into sending this car to Monterey last year by the silver snake tongues at Bonham. He only got the car in the 60s because he had a friend buy it back. Dry sump, nut and bolt according to Mario. Yesterday he said I want 100k, make me an offer. I don't like black cars, to hard to detail and keep clean. But when someone wants black on black they tend to pay.

Someone--not me--should tell Ferrari of Denver that their black/tan vetroresina is optimistically overpriced at $250K. Listed in their Philadelphia showroom. Of course this is on par with the offers I've gotten thus far ranging from $82K to $120K for steel cars from private individuals. Methinks it's time to stop wasting my time waiting for sellers to come to grips with current reality. Arrivederci.
