    An other Scuderia Filipinetti 512 S at Le Mans 1970, Moretti/Manfredini - #1022/1032
The history of the Ferrari 512S chassis number 1022 is complicated. Factory car, it began its career at the 24 Hours of Daytona, then participated in the April tests of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Ferrari 512S 1032 also started in Daytona, which the private team Scuderia Picchio Rosso had bought in early 1970. This car will unfortunately be partially destroyed in April by a fire at the finish of the AC Verona hill climb. Returned to the factory, it will be rebuilt with the chassis of 1022 but,.... it will keep the number 1032. At the end of 1970, when 1022/1032 returns to the factory to be modified to specifications "M", strikes delay work and it is chassis 1050 which will be used as a new base and will be equipped with mechanical components of 1022/1032.

One more! Ecurie Francorchamps came with # 1030 to Le Mans 1970, driven by de Fierlant/Walker. Note the narrow wheels in the back, probably needed for transportation. The great Jacques Swaters (light brown jacket), founder of the team, and Belgium's Ferrari Importer for decades, is seen bowed over the engine bonnet.

Derek Bell who inaugurated the car at Spa for Swaters and should have been driving for him at Le Mans but was called up by the factory can be seen in...yellow jacket.

On the right side of the picture is that Ferdinand Piech in the maroon shirt, grey slacks with a blue jacket standing behind the lady in the yellow sweater? Great period picture there!

    Not correct.
    1012 did not race.
And 1004 was never in Sicily.
Suggest to consult the factory archives.

    Not really correct.
On the 11th April 1970 chassis 1032 was driven in practice for the 1st AC Verona Cup at Monza (NOT a hillclimb!) on race #2 by Corrado Manfredini (see photo below), fastest lap, on the last lap the car was DESTROYED in a massive fire because the marshall’s fire extinguishers were empty, and because of this fact the Monza race track’s insurance company later had to pay for the damage to the car.
On the 13th April 1970 the remnants of 1032 were returned to the factory. The engine, the gearbox and the chassis number badge “1032” were saved and kept for customs and administrative reasons. All other pieces of the burnt wreck were scrapped at the factory. At this point the original chassis tube “1032” ceased to exist.

Chassis 1050 has NOTHING to do with 1022/1032. Completely separate car. Except that the first private owner of 1050 was also Corrado Manfredini (like 1022 and 1032). Manfredini's partner in 1050 was Count Roberto Angiolini.

The silvergrey 275 GTB/4 in the back of the photo is chassis #10813 owned at the time by Derek Bell.
This is the Brussels Motor Show car 1968.

This thread is becoming a genuine 512 S Encyclopedy! Mainly thanks to the unlimited knowledge of Mr.Massini! Fantastic!
I hope the Haynes Book on the 512 S is going to be as accurate!

Gatto Verde is part of the Ferrari history because so many new cars were presented to the press up on their terrace overlooking Maranello and the entire area towards Modena.

    Great pictures!!!

The histories of some these 512S/M cars are so confusing.

So the original chassis tubes of "1032" ceased to exist. After burning, was it then the case that the mechanicals and ID tag from "1032" were mated to the original chassis tubes of 1022, and the car now owned by Adrian Newey is still known as, and tagged as "1032" today, even though it is really 1022, because it has chassis tubes 1022????

Newey's 512 is 1022 and has been factory red book certified as such (1022) on June 28, 2006, with certificate #249 F.
    Newey purchased it December 2007.

Great, thank you for your reply. What mechanicals are in 1022 today?

Also is there anyone claiming to have a 512 with the identity of 1032 today?

Oh absolutely I have been aware of the launches done there for decades, such as 275GTB short nose I believe (correct me otherwise) one of the first things I did first time in Maranello in 92 was to locate it and drive up there.

    Not that I know of.
As said before, 1032 ceased to exist, after the massive fire of 11 April 1970 at Monza.
