Only 9 Pat. Had heart problem, apparently very common in Cavoodles. Thanks everyone for their thoughts too.
Sorry for your loss. 2020 is not shaping up as a good year in the canine community. Both my daughter and myself have also had doggie losses so far this year. I share your sorrow.
9 years - that's sadly short. We lost our Kelpie last November, at 14 1/2 years, tumour on her spine. It's amazing how much of a hole is left in your life afterwards.
They become such a part of the family, and usually end up being the only ones glad to see you come home... except at my place where the dogs are biting me, while I try to pick the locks Jodi has just changed..
Yeah, you could lock your dog up in the boot of your car for hours and they'd still be happy to see you. Try doing that to your wife
With a great deal of respect (I don't want this to end up in a WHOM situation),if you knew the issues why would you choose such a breed?
Didn't know when we got her, obviously isn't every Cavoodle, and she was just unfortunate that hers was very severe early in her life.
Sooo a bit further but different into this, just came back from beer o'clock from mate Sid's place....where I brought the subject up. He's had black poodles for years...they can be susceptible to blindness,as his current one now is (8yo),but his previous 3 didn't,apparently it can depend on the breeder as to whether 'your' dog 'gets' it. Perhaps it can be a due diligence of the breeder you use...I dunno.
Apparently the heart thing is from the King Charles Spaniel side, not the poodle side. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Yep, mitral valve issues. Our cavoodle had a leaky valve that never gave him issues. Passed away about 18mths ago at the age of 13. We had to put him down after he swallowed a sock and developed complications from a bowel obstruction. They are an excellent dog with a lovely nature
Virtually every kind of pure breds have some sort of inherent problem these days due to the interbreeding done to create show dogs...
