I’m glad you pointed spot on that the elevated rear is the design Aquilles heel of the GT spiders with a retractable hard roof. To accommodate such a roof, space is needed in the boot and that’s not compatible with the present rear design we see in the Roma. To have a retractable hard roof the Roma needs a new rear with a volume and dimensions identical to the ones of the Portofino. In an eventual future spider version in order to keep the rear of the Roma untouched, the alternative is to have a solution like the one implemented in the F60. A fabric retractable top that can also be stored inside a bag in the boot and swapped with a hard top that is placed and removed manually.
Looking at the modern retractable hard roof in the Portofino that can automatically transform a coupé into a convertible and vice versa in around 14 seconds, I doubt that the majority of Ferrari customers in this segmente would be willing to buy a GT spider not having that option.

Sounds like sour grapes, trying to diminish the accomplishments of Ferrari. If it's even true as I couldn't be bothered to follow the tweets of Jaguar employees.

Good catch. Sloppy reporting - as is the norm with most interweb magazines.

I’d be a proponent of a soft top Roma convertible. I don’t get the obsession with hard tops. Aston, Jag, Lambo, Porsche, MB and Lexus (among others) all still sell soft tops. With that said, this will never happen as long as the Portofino exists.

Sad but true, though I think it's a very elegant and timeless design, many people are mistaken it for an Aston Martin or a Jaguar.

But who cares about these people who cannot differ a ferrari from an aston or jag? The Roma is ten times more elegant than the cars of these brands. By the way... the new Aston Martin DBX looks like a Porsche Macan... (as i said it before: silly discussion)

The Portofino with the hidden bonnet in the picture was spotted this week driving around Maranello. Do you think Ferrari is testing a new version of the Portofino with a renewed bonnet design more like the one in the Roma ?

That seems to me just the usual protective wrap for test drives of standard production cars. Doesn't look any different than the std portofino bonnet underneath.

Yes, standard production car... the last final road test shortly before delivery. Not something special.

personally I love soft tops that have a removable hard top option like the Porsche 996 did. To me it’s the best of both worlds - push button power soft top that still offers trunk space and a hardtop for the winter months.

Are the shields smaller or is it just that the Roma is a very large car?

The second, the side panels look like they're one piece with the bonnet.

If SF shields are a must have, only painted. Same with 812 Superfast/GTS, same with Portofino.
