I'm a Belgian Ferrari collector and just purchased this rare car.
Unfortunately not so much history comes with it.
I'm looking for all kind of info, previous owners, pictures, experiences, everything that's related to this car and the other Straman Targa.
Many thanks for all your help!
    Guy

It’s this one indeed. I’ll do as soon as I have it, probably early August.

Curious if there's any glass behind the quarter window louvers. I was interested in one a few years ago and there was no glass much to my surprise.

With the roof panel out the ride is much different than when its in place and different again if its was never cut out.

I have the other boxer that Straman converted. A 1981.
Owned by someone in USA for years then acquired by a collector.
I too have little information. Seems impossible at this point to get any information about the conversion.
The car is beautiful but a lot of flex due to lack of rigid roof. Great on smooth roads.

I suppose that it was the red one you're looking at?
I'll check as soon as I've the car.
What do you mean with different ride? I've driven it only with the roof off and it drove very well (I don't fit in it when the roof is up... ), but I only made a small testdrive. You think it's not stiff enough?
Curious to explore it when I have it.

    Finally the car arrived!
Already enjoyed it for around 500 km's. More than the car has been driven in the last 10 years ?!
What an amazing Ferrari. The raw character and power of the carburated BB combined with an amazing open air feeling!
So happy that I bought it!
Still looking for more info about it's history. Anybody on Ferrarichat who owned it or knows more about it? About the Straman conversion?
    Thx!
    Guy

Those with the exposed side windows are hideous! Looks like someone took a hack saw to the roof.

Hi, I know your car very well to include driving it quite often when new and the following years. The car was purchased new in 1978 by my father's business partner, John W. Hamilton, of Corona Del Mar, California (It was imported by a dealer/collector in Scottsdale Arizona, Harley Cluxton.). I had a 1974 246 GTS (black/tan) at the time that John loved, so we took it over to Richard's shop in Costa Mesa and he asked Richard to make it into a Targa. Luiz Dallazan of Luis Ferraria Ferrari, then removed the engine for service and detail. The engine was then painted gold & black with white aluminized headers and reinstalled. It looked very nice back then. I believe Richard also built a new spoiler out of aluminum, which we mirror polished, as were the wheels. A paint stripe was also added between the belt line. If I remember correctly, it took Richard approx. 6-9 months to finish the customized work. John also had a very good custom stereo system installed. Sounded great!

I believe John owned the car for well over 15 years and it was then sold. To whom, I'm not sure.

The car resurfaced in 2012 at a dealer in La Jolla, Ca (La Jolla Sports Car - Jim). I considered buying it, but it needed to be serviced along with quite a bit of other work due to age and I passed. Looking back, I wish we would have bought it - I think they were asking in the neighborhood of $110k US.

The car then resurfaced once more in 2014 for sale by dealer Michael Sheehan of Costa Mesa, Ca. with approx. 16,000 miles. for $279,500.

I don't know what happened to the car until last night when I saw your post. I hope that you are enjoying it, and if you ever decide to sell the car, I would very much appreciate you letting me know. I'll also let Richard know today that it is now in Belgium. I was with him just last week.

    I hope this helps.

Hi, I remember your car as well when Richard was doing the conversion, but haven't seen it since. Let me see what I can come up with for you.

    1. Are you here in the US or in Europe?

    2. Do you have any photos you can send me? If so, please send to [email protected].

    Thanks, Rick
